The Maslow hierarchy has a huge impact on teaching and classroom arrangement. This is due to its relationship to learning through motivation. As teachers we could use our knowledge of the hierarchy structure to plan lessons and the classroom environment conducive for learning, making sure it is child friendly and the children can explore easily without hindrance. the classroom needs to be set up to meet as much needs as possible, especially the safety, belonging and esteem needs, this assumes that the physiological needs has been met by the parents of the children. Also the centre or preschool has a role to play as well, they can help in providing the physiological needs of the child and could keep them in check. Children will be happier and work best if their needs are been met, and as a childcare practitioner it is my obligation to know each child’s needs and try my best to meet them in other to motivate them to meet their full potentials.
Physiological needs such as temperature of the environment is important in a learning setting. If a class room or building is too hot or too cold it will affect the child or children ability to concentrate or stay focus in the classroom, example it is up to the teacher or carer to check that when the weather is too hot that the fan is on or the windows should be open as to avoid suffocation and running temperature. Food and sleep are also important as a child without proper diet and reasonable amount of sleep will have poor concentration and have their mind focus on food which is a basic need to them, as teachers it is advisable to make sure that all children those of them below the age of four get little nap in the preschool and also provide a healthy food as snack or lunch for the children. Also i think it is good to monitor the diet of the children when they are in the setting and report any unhealthy eating habit or pattern for the supervisor. e.g. a child that
