But how is mass media influencing our society. This question is what drives me to writing this proposal. Introduction
If you ask around most of the people will tell you that media is really influencing people. But how is mass media really influencing our way of living. Before discussing the influence of mass media on society it is important to point out the 3 basic functions of mass media.
The basic function of media is to provide entertainment, education and news/ information. The most important function of media is to provide news and information to the masses. That is why the present era is known as the information age. People need news or information for different reasons, on one hand it can be used to socialize and on the other to make decisions and formulate opinions. Entertainment would be the other function where it is mostly used to amuse in present day hectic environment. Educating the masses about their rights, moral, social and religious obligations is another important function of mass media.
Due to globalization a huge number of people depend on communication and information to stay connected to the world and their daily activities like education, work, health care, socialization and travel. If you look at a common person he or she wakes up each morning and checks newspaper or television news which he or she uses for basing their decisions.

Mass media is a significant force in modern culture. Sociologists refer to this as a mediated culture where media reflects and creates the culture. Communities and individuals are bombarded constantly with messages from a multitude of sources including TV, billboards, and magazines, to name a few. These messages promote not only products, but moods, attitudes, and a sense of what is and is not important. Mass media makes possible the concept of celebrity: without the ability of movies, magazines, and news media to reach across thousands of miles, people could not become famous.…

To understand the effects of mass media, you must first understand what mass media is. According to, “The Free Dictionary” (2012), mass media is defined as, “ a means of communication that reach a large number of people in a short time, such as television, newspaper, magazine, radio, and internet.” When you look back as just the last 50 years, our technology has increasingly been on the uprise allowing for major advancements in not only the original form of communication and news exchange, but in our entertainment area as well. Our population used to gather at the lucky enough families home that owned a radio and they would gather to hear presidential address, and now we get them stream live straight to our phones. To say that we have upgraded is an understatement.…
