Master Of Social Work

Social work is among the most values-based and ethics-based of all professions. It is the purpose of this paper to logically and critically identify the importance of values and ethics as an integral part of social work education, especially in regards to Master of Social Work (MSW) internship programs. Although MSW internship programs include individuals from a range of demographic and cultural groups, it is critical that MSW students learn about and confront ethical dilemmas and raise issues regarding programs, policies, and procedures. In this case study, the Immigration and Refugee Ministries Association (IRMA) offered a MSW internship program to a student named Scott Campbell despite influx of leadership. Internships are to provide students
with a broad range of experiences and theoretical perspectives, both internally and externally, in order to enhance their knowledge, skills, and awareness in a specific area. Given the complexity of issues at IRMA, the extent to provide this educational experience in relation to the MSW internship program was limited. Based on the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE), IRMA lacks knowledge regarding social work ethics and current CSWE accreditation guidelines. This has been identified as an ethical dilemma, and it is important to fully explore this case as problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are needed to holistically the Scott Campbell’s current circumstances.
