Masturbation 's Shame “It 's something people don 't talk about, but almost everyone does it: Masturbation.” (Handerson). Imagine this: you are in your room and you feel ashamed. You have many friends who you know will judge you if they find out. You stop, guilty and ashamed of yourself for what you did. “Some people who masturbate feel ashamed or embarrassed about it. This is partly because masturbation has been wrongly labeled as deviant, dangerous, and sinful.” (BetterHealth). Masturbation has shown to to have many health benefits, but many are ashamed to do or talk about this “forbidden act” because of how they will be viewed and how they will be judged. Males and females both benefit

To others it is something shameful, embarrassing, sinful, and something to be guilty about. In my confusion, I wondered to myself: Why is it so embarrassing? It is natural. According to BetterHealth, masturbation releases these “opiod-like neurotransmitters”, which make us feel good mentally and physically without being sexual. Here is something else masturbation can effect: Stress. BetterHealth has also said that masturbation is a stress reducer on our body, making us feel less stressed. Can 't fall asleep? Yvonne Fulbright 's article “The Health Benefits of Masturbation” shows that masturbation is natural sleep sedative. Good-bye sleeping pills! However, while these are some of the health benefits in general, men and women have their own individual health …show more content…
Masturbation has dated back far before today 's society, where now today, we have learned that not only is it healthy and won 't give you hairy palms, but it is beginning to be accepted into society with open arms. I 'm sure that now with all our new technologies with new things being discovered each day, we are able to learn and know all sorts of things without the use of books. Masturbation is only one of the many things we have made many advances and discoveries about. But because of these discoveries, it has prevented serious violence and worry among society. While masturbation is not fully accepted, but making baby-steps towards it, people who are ignorant to most of the aspects of masturbation target people who do masturbate and treat them like they are sick people with their ignorance. I believe that if we we made the fact that masturbation is healthy for you, be it school or something else, I would like to think it would prevent unnecessary

Sexual socialization Sexual socialization is the process through which young people learn and internalize sexual knowledge, attitudes, skills, norms, and expectations for sexual relationships. People learn to be sexual within specific cultures and contexts, and socialization is a lifelong process that begins in childhood, increases considerably in adolescence, and continues throughout adulthood (Gagnon, 1990; Longmore, 1998). Key socializing agents in the development of sexual behavior include families, schools, peers, and mass media (Chapin, 2000; Luster & Small, 1994; Resnick et al., 1997), and adolescents report learning about sexuality from these sources (Kaiser Family Foundation, 1998; Sutton, Brown,Wilson, & Klein, 2002). Research suggests that socialization agents differentially impact adolescents’ sexual behavior: Parents and schools are traditional and largely health promoting socialization agents, while peers and mass media often provide information that accelerates teens’ sexual activity (L’Engle, Brown, & Kenneavy, 2006). Families have an early and ongoing role in the socialization of children, and adolescents who have positive connections to their families and schools have less advanced sexual behavior.…

When talking about social stigmas and social problems dealing with pornography most people tend to talk about those who purchase or watch pornography. Those social problems could include the underage watching of porn, the fact that it can lead to a desensitization of sexual human contact, and the more aggressive and negative outlook toward women. However, there are several problems dealing with those involved in the…

When we are given the chance to hear, see, or take part in sex, we jump at the chance. In the past, since the idea of sex was taboo, we were discouraged from the idea of it. In Herdt and Howe’s book, 21st Century Sexualities: Contemporary Issues in Health, Education, and Rights, they state that “people have much more agency, autonomy or ‘will’ when it comes to viewing sexual scenes” (53). Over time, we were given the freedom to think about and participate in sex. If people rejected and actually discouraged the idea of sex naturally, we would have stayed the way we were in the past. We allowed ourselves to become surrounded by sex, and this shows that we, as humans, love the idea of…

I can see how this could lead to unsafe practices or putting people in situations outside of their comfort level. As our text explains the behavioral account of the development of paraphilias, after a person pairs masturbation with inappropriate sexual fantasies repeatedly, they then extend the frequency and intensity. Naturally, if the person is feeling good about what they are doing they will repeat it. The intensity increase can account for the need to add to what they are doing. What may have been exciting and shocking before, is dull and boring at the present so they need to come up with something new. I was astounded by the statistics in our lecture notes regarding people who using the internet for sexual entertainment and was surprised to see that there was no percentage for those who were just curious or began with curiosity. I was also surprised that over 50% of the men were in committed relationships. I wonder if the relationship was lacking something for them or if they would…

The changes in the cranial and facial form are linked to the food that was eaten and how it was made. The different types of food and the muscles used to chew the food resulted in different muscle features on the face. The types of food that became available to them was also a factor when looking at the skull. Masticatory-function hypothesis explains that the shape of the craniofacial was related to the consumption of soft food (Larsen 2014, 435). When food began to be cooked it changed the constancy. Food that was once hard and required more work to chew began to be a lot easier to eat. Hunter-gatherers had characteristics such as long cranial vault, large robust mandible, bigger teeth and tooth wear was normal. Agriculturalists had short skulls, small mandibles, smaller teeth and little wear on the teeth (Larsen 2014, 436).…

Teens did not know their own bodies. There were little factual resources that teenagers can depend. Few choices left for them, teenagers were guided along high risk actions. Abstinence was the approved option by parents, as it teaches teens to not be sexually active but not on protection or STDS. Another path is exploration on their own means. Exploration was dangerous, because teenagers were unaware of the consequences. Both options plunged teens’ health into a abyss. Then around 1980s, media started to reach towards the topic of sexual activity in teenagers. Many teen movies brushed against the topic about sexual activity and gave more positive responses than usual. Now, there is a rapid increase in sexual activity amongst teens. Due to this rise of sexually active teens, sexual health programs in high schools need to be updated to accommodate this change. High schools need to avoid only abstinence learning and implemented new programs for…

Currently we have schools teaching about abstinence and how it prevents pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. However, many of these sex education programs do not include or want to include teaching about contraception for the adolescents who are not abstinent. Arguing that including contraception education in the program will send the wrong message about sex or that we are giving teenagers and young adults the "okay" to have sex. Not providing education on contraception will put teenagers who are not abstinent at a greater risk for catching sexually transmitted diseases and becoming pregnant at an earlier age. It is why schools should have sex education that supports abstinence but also teaches about contraception and what teenagers can do in case they decide to be sexually active.…

The video series on Shame were very enlightening and provide information critical for a teacher to know when dealing with readers of varying skill levels. The videos highlight how lack of ability or poor skills in reading can create intense feelings of shame due to a perception of lack of intellect or stupidity in both the student’s self-view and by others. This shame can be an internally created feeling or be external in the form of public shame which can be debilitating and long lasting. Some individuals are never able to move beyond or overcome these feelings. Therefore, teachers need to be aware of the impact or result of requiring students to read out loud and subjecting them to the ridicule of others. Teachers also need to be more…
