Matched By Allie Condie: Character Analysis

In the book Matched, by Allie Condie, Cassia Reyes is transformed through the decisions that she has to make for not only her future, but the future of others as well. In the beginning of this book, Cassia is head over heals for her new to be match Xander Carrow, but that all changes with the click of a single button. Late one night, Cassia had decided to look at the micro card that was given to her with information about Xander, once the card was put into her port, two different faces appear on the screen instead of one. “My heart stops, and I can’t believe what I see. A face comes back into view on the port in front of me. It is not Xander.” (Condie 35). Cassia’s response to this is at first very calm, thinking that it was just a simple mistake that meant nothing. But, as you will see throughout the book she begins to think about what happened more and more and before you know it, Ky Markham becomes the center of her life.
He, unlike all of the others, was not born and raised in the Oria Province, but he was raised in a place called the outer provinces.Now, most people know that he is from the outer provinces, but something that nobody knows (all but Cassia) is that Ky is an aberration, meaning that he is not allowed to be matched. Throughout the book, Condie tell’s little pieces of Ky’s story that not only make the reader fall in love with Ky as a character, but make Cassia fall in love with Ky as a person.“Is falling in love with someone's story the same thing as falling in love with the person himself?” (Condie 196).While yes, these little snippets of Ky’s story add up and make you wonder what the outer provinces are really like, Cassia is starting to question whether or not her feelings for him are real or if her mind is just playing with
