2. Prevent illness: The main way the nurse prevents illness is by education. The patient should be given clear instructions on what shoes to wear and how to treat their feet after they have a procedure done, such as, nail removal. The nurse also explains the signs and symptoms of infection to the patient and educates the patient to come back if they notice anything abnormal.
3. Manage acute and/or chronic health needs: Western
Hills Podiatry primarily provides nail care on high-risk diabetic patients. The patient may come in for an ingrown toenail and so the health care team will work together to treat this issue. However, since the patient is a diabetic patient, the health care team will educate the patient on the importance of frequently checking their feet for any sores or open wounds. This education contributes to the chronic health management of diabetes mellitus.
