Maya Angelou’s childhood was burdensome. She moved around a lot after her parents’ divorce. Angelou was traumatized after she was sexually assaulted. The whole experience was so devastating that Angelou became mute for awhile, up until she moved to San Francisco. Maya Angelou later became an actress after giving birth to her son. She starred in a few Broadway productions. In addition, she starred in a civil rights play as a benefit for Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Thereafter, Maya Angelou moved to Ghana to work as an editor at the University of Ghana. As an African American teenage girl, life is always going to have challenges for me to face and knowing that Maya Angelou had the courage to stand up and make a difference shows me that I could do the same in my own way. It has always been a dream of mine to help children in the world conquer problems they may face in their lives.
