Maya Angelou Inspiration

“If you don’t like something, change it, if you can’t change it, change your attitude.” That is a quote by a famous African American actress, poet, civil rights activist, and memoirist, Dr. Maya Angelou. Most people knew her for her poems. For more than half of the black community, it was more than poems. Maya Angelou’s words were their strength and how they really felt. Maya Angelou is inspiration, motivation, and a voice. Maya Angelou is my inspiration, my motivation, and a voice for me. Dr. Maya Angelou impacted history and me and others like me. She changed the world with her words, her attitude, and her strength.
Maya Angelou’s childhood was burdensome. She moved around a lot after her parents’ divorce. Angelou was traumatized after she was sexually assaulted. The whole experience was so devastating that Angelou became mute for awhile, up until she moved to San Francisco. Maya Angelou later became an actress after giving birth to her son. She starred in a few Broadway productions. In addition, she starred in a civil rights play as a benefit for Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Thereafter, Maya Angelou moved to Ghana to work as an editor at the University of Ghana. Upon her return to the United States, a friend of hers, James Baldwin, convinced Angelou to write about her life
As an African American teenage girl, life is always going to have challenges for me to face and knowing that Maya Angelou had the courage to stand up and make a difference shows me that I could do the same in my own way. It has always been a dream of mine to help children in the world conquer problems they may face in their lives. Although I'm won't be writing poems or doing Broadway plays, I am trying to also make a difference. Maya Angelou is a voice for those who don't have a voice.
