Maya Angelou's Accomplishments
Maya Angelou’s life was a roller coaster. Through her upside down loops and her cork screws, she made a high living for herself. She achieved awarding accomplishments. Maya is not only one of the most famous poets in the world but, she was also a literature writer, a dancer, actress and a singer. She wrote children books and she was also one of the first African American women to have an original screenplay produced called Georgia. She won the National Book Award, A Pulitzer Prize and is listed as one of the one hundred most influential women in the world. Louis, Missouri. Maya Angelou is still currently alive. During the early ages of Maya Angelou life she delit with many incidents in her life. When she was about seven years old something tragic had happened to Maya. Seven year old Maya got raped by her mother’s boyfriend. The only person Maya ever told about her molestation was her brother Bailey. The rapist was found murdered by her uncles a couple of weeks after telling her brother. Maya was so scared and traumatized she would not talk for about five years. Thankfully her teacher, Mrs. Bertha Flowers helped Maya Angelou overcome her trauma with her rape incident by influencing her to learn and to write poetry. Poetry played a very big part in life a helped Maya recover her voice again. Maya Angelou officially began to write at the age of thirty, by this time she began to publish. Once she came out about her rape, a lot of African American began to come out with several other incidents in their life time. At the age sixteen Maya had become a mother. As she grew up she had to deal with the civil rights movement which was a time when African Americans were fighting for their equal rights. She was a civil rights worker for SCLC (). She also composed a poem as part of Bill Clinton’s inauguration during the civil rights movement.
