Mayo Clinic: Fat Breakdown
Fat Breakdown

1. According to the Mayo Clinic, saturated fats should only comprise no more than 10 percent of your daily fat intake. For my three-day food record, Saturated fat contributed to 10 percent of my fat intake. So I was within the recommended daily allowance. My high saturated fat amounts were clearly directly related to the 3 mini burgers topped with onion strings I ate from Matchbox. That same Sunday I also indulged in a brownie, also a source of saturated fat. I normally don’t eat beef that often – maybe once or twice a month. My trans fat intake was 0 percent; therefore I was well within the recommended range.

2. The Mayo Clinic has no clear definitions for how much monosaturated and polysaturated fats such be consumed each

Diet Analysis plus recommended that my diet should be comprised of 45 to 65 percent carbohydrates or roughly 943 -1362 calories. My dailies recommend amount of protein should be 10 and 35 percent 210- 733 calories. Fat should be 20 percent to 35 percent or 419 to 733 calories. My carbohydrate intake was 51 percent or approximately 1000 calories. My intake was within the recommended range. Protein intake was 13 percent or 259 calories. Again, this was within the recommended range. However my fat consumption was outside of the recommended range slightly with 38 percent. This again was because of the mini burgers, which were high in saturated fat and brought my saturated fat consumption a relatively high 10 percent. None of my macronutrient intakes were below the recommended …show more content…

1. My fiber intake was above diet analysis plus’s recommendation for me. The Diet Analysis plus recommendation was 25 grams of fiber. I consumed 30.55 grams of fiber – roughly 122 percent of the recommended total. I consume anywhere from 5 to 7 fruits and vegetables a day. I also eat oatmeal and whole grains regularly. These practices all contribute to my high fiber in take.

2. My sodium intake was extremely high. The recommended daily amount of sodium consumption is 1500mg. I ingested nearly double that at 2829 mg of sodium. Once more, the mini burger onion straw meal from Matchbox -although delicious- is not as appealing from a wellness perspective. It is not that the meal could never be consumed but it should only be consumed every once in a while to balance out the high saturated fat and high sodium content. Moderation is the

Saturated fats and trans-fats are known as bad fats because they increase your risk of disease and elevate cholesterol. These bad fats can be found in high-fat cuts of meat, packaged snack foods, butter, cheese, vegetable shortening, fried foods, and candy bars. Foods containing trans-fats, or trans fatty acids, are harmful because they are known to increase the risk of heart disease, increase total cholesterol levels, and cause your healthy HDL (good) cholesterol levels to drop. They are also responsible for clogging arteries and causing obesity. Saturated fat is a fat that contains only saturated fatty acids, is solid at room temperature, and comes mainly from animal food products. Some examples of saturated fat are…

According to “Face the Fats” (2013), the unhealthy fats are, saturated and trans fats, tend to be more solid at room temperature (like a stick of butter). The healthy fats are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and they tend to be more liquid (like liquid vegetable oil). Saturated fat is found mostly in foods from animals and some plants. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are found mainly in many fish, nuts, seeds and oils from plants. Some examples of foods that contain these fats include salmon, trout, herring, avocados, olives, walnuts and liquid vegetable oils such as soybean, corn, safflower, canola, olive and sunflower. Both polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats may help lower your blood cholesterol level when you use them in place of saturated and trans fats, Face the Fats (2013).…
