Some believe that Ecstasy is therapeutic; others take it to capture the feeling of love all around. Many people know it as "the love drug." Ecstasy or in Medical terms, MDMA, is a drug that has taken control of the lives of so many adults and children as well. This drug has long-term effects that will leave users more ignorant than one started out when one chooses to abuse it. As much as users believe that it does no harm, this drug can potentially be very dangerous. It is a synthetic, psychoactive, mind-altering drug with amphetamine and hallucinogenic properties (https://www.ctclearinghouse.org/topics/ecstasy/).

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in the regulation of mood, sleep, pain, appetite, and other behaviors. The excess release of serotonin by MDMA likely causes the mood effects people experience (https://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/research-reports/mdma-ecstasy-abuse/what-are-effects-mdma). The drug also increases levels of the oxytocin and prolactin hormones, which can cause one to become less receptive to fear and more prone to be involved in social interactions. Low serotonin levels are associated with poor memory and being in a depressed mood. Acute effects on the use of ecstasy are kidney failure, swelling of the brain, muscle stiffness and restless legs. Although, the potential to abuse the drug is less likely than to abuse a drug like cocaine, the effects should not be taken lightly.
Conclusion: Therapeutic Purpose
Ecstasy should be used for therapeutic purposes. If the potential to abuse the drug is low, with a monitor, regulating the amount of the drug being given, then it should be safe. As long as the drug is not abused the user will not become more depressed, only relaxed. When someone experiences or witnesses a traumatic event, fear and anxiety even when no danger is present, could bring back flashbacks causing one to be uncomfortable. Ecstasy could help relief the feeling and give the person comfort. The drug would create a new idea that would take one’s mind off the traumatizing
