A ventilator is a medical equipment that helps patients who are unable to breathe by themselves or need help maintaining a healthy ventilation. Patients can require better levels of ventilation due to: Asthma, CNS disorders, congenital defects and postoperative conditions. They were first seen in 1927 and known as the iron lung.
