Medical marijuana is not the same as street marijuana, which is highly believed among the people who I have talked to about this subject. Now, I cannot speak for everyone in this state, so do not take this as a “state-wide” opinion. While street marijuana is very mind altering and highly addictive, medical marijuana is made from “whole unprocessed marijuana plants or its basic extracts to treat a disease or symptom”. The chemicals, cannabinoids, specifically THC and CBD, found in these unprocessed marijuana plants has led to two FDA-approved medications in pill form. THC, the mind-altering component to marijuana, although mind-altering, does have its perks. It can be used as an anti-nausea or appetite reducing medication and also can aid with inflammation and muscle problems. CBD, is not mind or behavior altering and aids in reducing inflammation and pain, controlling epileptic seizures, and some mental illnesses. Medical marijuana can be dispensed in many forms such as oils, inhalants, and pill form including suppositories. Now, like everything else, medical marijuana does have its cons to its pros. Majority of the cons I’ve found when researching the topic has been its harm…

There are a numerous number of drugs in the United States. There is a drug like marijuana that you could smoke, get high from, and still pass a urinary test with it in your system. This drug can be called many things: legal spice, spice, legal, potpourri, and anything else someone might come up with. The two most common drugs used in the US have been legal spice and marijuana. The scientific term for legal spice is Synthetic Cannabis it is an herbal and chemical item that when smoked, mimics the effects of marijuana. It is best known as legal spice or K2. There has been an increase in drug abuse by the use of legal spice which is mixed with different chemicals such as JWH-018. JWH-018 was first developed in 1995 for research, by organic chemist John W. Huffman at Clemson University in South Carolina. (http://syntheticmarijuana.wordpress.com/). He created this chemical compound and tried to find cannabinoid receptors in the brain. The parts that THC in marijuana bond with to produce feelings of euphoria and research shows he was successful in these findings. (http://syntheticmarijuana.wordpress.com/). These chemicals do not show up in the system but result in having a long term effect on the body. According to Huffman, “it doesn’t hit the brain in the same way as marijuana, and that’s why it’s dangerous.” (http://hightimes.com/news/mmiller/7144). Legal spice is known all around the US and in some places it is legal. In other cities it is not, because of the effects it causes on the body. Many people were smoking legal spice when it was “legal” because of the fact that it didn’t show up in a drug test. It was…

Throughout this paper, there will be the highly debatable discussion between legalizing medical marijuana and regular marijuana. Both sides of the argument have their pros and cons and there is an in depth description of both sides of the argument. At the end of the day though, the paper thoroughly supports the legalization of medical marijuana and marijuana in general. Medical marijuana less harmful than most other legal tobacco products and has the ability to reduce the pain within ailing people. Cannabis also can be a curable and more natural drug to help people in pain. Concerns on the drug are understandable; many people fear that marijuana can lead to the use and abuse of harder drugs such as heroin and cocaine. “Marijuana is far less addictive and far less subject to abuse than many drugs now used as muscle relaxants, hypnotics and analgesics”(Lester Grinspoon, MD and James B. Bakalar, JD). Medical marijuana should not be considered as a drug but more like a healing herb. Marijuana isn’t even a drug, it’s a plant. Therapeutic use of marijuana has a history spanning over 4,500 years. Around 2700 B.C., in Egypt, marijuana (cannabis sativa) was used as a treatment for sore eyes; the Greeks used cannabis as a remedy to treat inflammation earache and edema (Teresa Odle and Clare Hanrahan). Even today, clinical studies have shown that marijuana is effective against relieving nausea and vomiting following chemotherapy treatments for cancer. The herb has also been…

If something does more good ,than bad ,then is it truly bad? This is the case with marijuana. The United States groups marijuana in with much harsher drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and other opiates which are proven to lead to death. The federal government fails to realize the benefits which marijuana provides. These benefits range from helping the medical field expand into cheaper and more beneficial solutions to helping solve financial issues for state and federal governments. This implementation would be unnerving however most states have already legalized marijuana and their results provide a great pathway for a full legalization. Medical marijuana should be legal because it has legitimate medical uses,…
