• The Rebec
• The Bladder Pipe
• The Hurdy-Gurdy
• The Rackett
• The Crumhorn
a. What is the instrument? The Bladder Pipe is an instrument with a single reed, but for the soft, low, baritone sound, it uses an animal bladder as the “air-bag” that controls how loud the instrument gets.
b. Describe the instrument. What does it look like? What does it sound like? The Bladder Pipe literally looks like a stick with a plastic bag on the top! But it has the base (the neck/body) of a very long recorder and then the top looks like a plastic bag which also helps so your lips don’t touch the reed very much.
c. How is the instrument played? Was it used in particular types of music? The instrument is and can be played by either standing up or sitting down. It’s really based on the persons preference on playing the instrument. The Bladder Pipe was used for all types of music I’m assuming. (The article did not specify what genre of music the instrument is used for)
