In the case of Memi and Sabu, they appear to be embracing each other. There is a feeling of love, in that each one has their hand around another. They are both standing tall, which to me says that they are happy and comfortable with each other. According to the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the male in the statue is not depicting a normal masculine pose (The Royal Acquaintances Memi and Sabu, n.d.) with one foot in front of the other. Instead, he appears to be an equal to his mate, returning her embrace and keeping his legs together to signify that they are 1 couple instead of two human beings. This is different from Gudeo because he is in the statue by himself. Instead of standing tall, he is crouched over in a seated position. It almost looks like he is deep in contemplation, which makes sense because as a king and builder of temples he must have made many big decisions and spent much time pondering. One thing I noticed as well is that Gudeo has a ring around his head, which in many paintings means that the person is a god or god like. For instance, in many paintings of Jesus he has a an orb or halo of light around his head. This could also be applied to Gudeo and his ring around his head, or maybe it’s just a hat I don’t really know. This contrasts to Memi and Sabu who look like regular people embracing each
