1. Describe the character's diagnosis in terms of the DSM-IV. Make sure to include two (2) criteria that the character meets.
The central character of the Fatal attraction movie was Dan Gallagher, an attorney of the New York City who was married and has a daughter. When his wife and daughter were on vacation, he cheated on her. The two criteria that the character meets are Dissociative disorder and mood disorders.
For example, he has many multiple personalities, and he has a double life. Also when he was with his wife he acts normal, when in fact he was cheating on her with another woman called Alexandra. On the pass of the day, he started to have depression and bipolarity disorders by Alexandra manipulations. Due to Alexandra manipulations, he had no other way that he just tells the truth to his wife about the affair with the women.
Another character in this movie is Alexandra, an editor of a publishing company. She meets Dan and has an affair. The two criteria that Alexandra meets are personality disorder and impulse- control disorders. The reason I choose these criteria is because she has a multiple personality. For instance, when she was near Dan she was kind, respectful, and lovely but when Dan doesn’t take her calls or he don’t want to know about her she acts like another person. By her impulses to have Dan by her side, she kidnapped Dan daughter and tried to kill his wife. Also, when Alexandra sees that Dan don’t want to know about her, she made a plan saying she would have a baby so he would take responsibilities about the situation.
