Euthanasia is the action of intentionally ending the life of a person or an animal that is suffering from uncurable or painful disease or condition. The word euthanasia comes from Greek, with "eu" meaning good or happy and "thanatos" meaning death. In other words, euthanasia can also be defined as mercy killing. There are different types of euthanasia, voluntary euthanasia, non-voluntary euthanasia and involuntary euthanasia. Voluntary euthanasia is performed when a patient suffers from a terminal disease; Non-voluntary euthanasia is euthanasia performed on patients who do not have the ability to make the decision; Involuntary euthanasia is known as murder. Euthanasia has become a heated focal point of controversy, especially in the mainstream media. Nowadays, the increasingly liberal society is beginning to accept euthanasia as a solution to terminal illness. However, those championing the pseudo solution are ignorant to the plethora of problems pertinent to the act. By examining and explaining the risks of abuse by vested interests, the implications on medical advancement, and the potential discouragement of the patients' will to live, I will prove that euthanasia should not be legalized.
