Meteorology Personal Statement
I chose to major in Earth Sciences because of my passion for meteorology, astronomy, and geology. From a young age I realized I was interested in the weather and wanted to learn as much as I could about it. My interest in astronomy and geology did not begin until my 11th and 12th grade years of high school. It was when I took classes over them that I realized I am interested in them too. Although my interest in astronomy and geology only started recently I am no less dedicated to learning about them as I am with meteorology. I hope that once at college I will be able to learn all I can about these three subjects that significantly interest me.
Around the time I was ten I started realize my curiosity for the weather. But at first it wasn’t always that way. I used to be terrified of storms and would try to “hide” from them and refuse to come out until they were done. It was only when I started to realize that a simple thunderstorm couldn’t harm me did I become curious about them. Also, my mother was a very large influence for my interest in the weather. Once I started to show my curiosity

Meteorology is something I realized I was fascinated by at an early age. Astronomy only became an interest after I took a class over it and realized how absorbing space can be. Geology was something I never could have imagined myself being interested in until I realized just how enthralling it really is. If I had never taken the classes my school offers for astronomy and geology and never would have discovered my fascination for them. I thought that I would have to choose between only one of them to study about so when I discovered UNI’s earth science program I was delighted because it provides me with the perfect opportunity to study all of them at once. I hope that I will easily be able to find a career that allows me to incorporate all of my

Oceanography is a great scientific field because most of the ocean is undiscovered. If you are an oceanographer than you get to help the rest of the world find out what is really down there and find out more about what we already know is down there. I was introduced to the field I am interested in from my 9th grade biology class. Prior to the course, I had never taken biology or any science, for that matter, that had captured my attention such as this year-long experience. I was intrigued by the subject and fascinated with all the advances in society that have been made by scientists throughout the years. The possibility of being able to do this in the future kept me engaged and I further pursued this interest by currently taking AP Biology. In addition, I was inspired by the change that scientists can make through research and…

I'm passionate about science, specifically the science that revolves around how our planet works. I live in an area that is a geological hot spot, I’m only miles away from Crater Lake and I live near the Cascadia Subduction Zone. I began to learn that earthquakes and natural disasters were a phenomenon that I wanted to learn more about. So I challenged myself by taking 4 and half years worth of science credits. My junior year I took Chemistry and Physics, and my senior year I continued building credit by taking AP Environmental Science. Each year I strived to earn good grades so that I could have an opportunity to continue my education. I want to earn a bachelor's degree in Earth Science and continue on to an advanced degree. A letter came in the mail reading, 'congratulations on being accepted into the Engineering program of your choice!' A close friend of mine asked me a question that got me thinking, why did I choose to major in Engineering? While growing up I always talked about becoming a successful engineer someday and here I was now, following my dream. Since being a kid I remember my parents always telling me to follow my dream and never let anything get in the way of it. I remember being told and acknowledge that the sciences are for the smart students while Art subject are for the lazier students. As a result, students are gradually becoming less interested in Liberal Arts. People have chosen Science subjects over…

However, I am a slow reader, so I believe that has some influence, as well. My current major, Business, was not what I would have expected to pursue if someone had said so, then. All my life I have known I would attend to college, but never knew what to pursue. My interests are so varied; what I enjoy versus what I am willing and able to achieve 40 hours out of the week are two very different things. I had always thought of being a Veterinarian, but can’t stand to see animals suffering. I had also considered something in animal behavior, but had no idea on how to pursue that direction. So, I choose a Business major, not only because it compliments my current career path, but it is also a universal major that would be beneficial in multiple areas, regardless of which path I choose. I have considered a graduate program in Business, as well, hoping that there is one gravitating towards Logistics and Supply Chain Management.…

In high school biology, chemistry, and math were always the easiest and most interesting subjects to me. My sophomore year I maintained 102% average in my biology class, my teacher, Mrs. Backer, was very impressed and suggested I take AP biology and her forensics class. So my junior year I took the forensics class and I was hooked! I was constantly trying to work ahead or get more out of my teacher. I wanted to know everything and do everything in that class. I had never been so into a class before, I wouldn’t miss a day in that class for anything. That class was what set my career choice in stone;…

For myself choosing a major was a thought I was unsure of. When I was a junior in High School teachers, classmates and family would constantly ask “what is your major in college going to be?” my answer for a long time was ‘I have some time to think about it, I’m torn between a couple majors, or I might even take a semester off to think about it”, however I had no clue. Because I wasn’t sure I figured applying to any UC’s and CSU’s would be waste of time, I didn’t want to rush and pick something because I had to, so I decided my best option was to attend COM and really explore my options. A year later, after two semesters at COM I found myself still trying to figure out my major. I was unsure for a long time, it wasn’t until the day my older sister went into labor with my nephew that her nurse made me realize what she did for my sister was something I wanted to do for women everyday. What I experienced in the labor room the day of my nephews birth forever changed my life. Helping my sister through her labor was meaningful to me because it made me realize how calm I could stay during a stressful time, her work ethic, and realizing I wanted to go into nursing.…
