Collecting data
Data collecting is done at early stage through survey of questionnaire, observation and interview.
Identify information types and sources
There are two types of information available to a market research that is the primary data and the secondary data. Primary data and the secondary data are two entirely different services.
Primary data is the original information gathered for a specific purpose. This data usually involves the actual going out to the field and conductiong some type of survey or fact finding investigation among the actual people in a given area. There are many different ways to perform this investigation.
Survey
With concise and straight forward questionnaires, analysis of a sample group that represents the target market is done. The questionnaires are been distributed randomly to 150 respondents at Tesco, Tanjung Tokong and Gurney Drive. These two places are located within 5km from our site. The respondents are chosen randomly based on their willingness to fill in the questionnaire.
Observation
Observation at the actual site is needed to provide us with a proper understanding of the environment of the site. Observation towards individual includes the respondent’s response to surveys and focus groups are sometimes at odds with people’s actual behaviour.
Secondary data refers to the information that already exists and has been collected for other purpose. Both types of research have a number of activities and methods of conducting associated with them. Secondary data is usually faster to obtain as it involves examining all the various types of research that may available to the public, collecting the data and forming some type of opinion about it. Gathering secondary data is also easier compared to primary data as the data can be obtained in a local library, business information centre or browsing the Internet. There is already a lot of statistics about different information that can be used for this research.
