Working in a virtual team for any organization will encounter several of challenges. Communication is the biggest challenge the virtual team will face because the team members will be in different locations covering different time zones. In order for the virtual team to function effectively, Harden, Harden and Harden (HHH) must overcome the challenges in communicating by virtual means. Challenges Songsri will face will be building trust, not being able to meet face to face, technology problems, and managing conflict.
Trust within the virtual team is the most important challenge Songsri will face when communicating with the team. One of the biggest challenges of virtual teams is building and maintaining trust between the team members. Trust is critical for unblocking communication between members and sustaining motivation of each person involved (Time-Mangement-Guide.com, 2005). An article on virtual team benefits and challenges.
The inability to meet face to face is the next challenge Songsri will face with her virtual team. The virtual team will have to rely on different ways to communicate such as e-mails, phone calls, teleconferences or virtual meeting. Without face to face communication the effectiveness of the team ability to complete the project will be a challenged. Each member of the team will have tasks to complete and without face to face interaction, the exchanging of information will be limited due to the difference in time zones.

Songsri can build trust among the virtual team by establishing a virtual meet and greet, lead the team by example and creating an environment where each team member feels valuable. Building trust prior to the start of the project is imperative for the team to accomplish. Songsri can first start by holding a virtual meeting as an ice breaker for the team.
