Starbucks: Internal & Extermal Factors
Introduction
What comes to mind when you think of coffee? The first think that comes to mind is Starbucks. For over thirty decades Starbucks has been in the business of selling top quality coffee, Tazo teas, and fine pastries. From 1971 when Starbucks first store opened in Seattle’s Pike Place Market to today where there are 17,651 stores, as of July 1, 2012, Starbucks has focused on globalization through technology, innovation, diversity and ethics to be where they currently are now (Starbucks, 2013) .
Globalization Throughout the existence of Starbucks, they have been able to look at both internal and external factors in the four functions of management; planning, organizing, lending, and controlling in order to expand and be as successful as they are today. With that being said, internal factors have an impact with the organization and tend to be a bit easier to control and resolve. It is essential to be able to run these four functions of management at an internal level to have a business run smoothly. This is usually where frontline managers are essential to keep control. However external factors may have an immediate effect on the organization. There are various times where various factors are out of the control of an organization and can have a great impact on them for the same reason. This is where smart planning, organizing, leading and controlling counts the most and helps reach that globalization every business seeks. Technology
