The Early Years:
Michael Jackson’s musical career started as a lead singer of Jackson Five when he was five years old. In 1968, Jackson Five moved to California after signing with Berry Gordy of Motown Records. In his solo album, Ben, a ballad song about a rat became his “first solo number one single.” Later on, Jackson Five “signed a new recording deal with Epic Records” due to the dilemma with their record company (“Michael Jackson”).

In 1982, he released his dance solo album called, Thriller, which was “the world’s largest selling album of all time” (Law, 228, “Biography on Michael Jackson”). Michael performed the famous dance move, “The Moonwalk”, a move he choreographed himself, for the first time in a television show commemorating Motown. He also performed another one of his number one hit songs, “Billie Jean” (“Michael Jackson”).
In 1984, Jackson suffered from burns on his face and scalp while filming a commercial for Pepsi-Cola, but was fixed after having surgery. It seems he had been “experimenting with plastic surgery,” his face and in particular, his nose had drastically changed (“Michael Jackson”). Racist comments were said about him after bleaching his skin white. Michael clarified things on the Oprah show and said he bleached his skin due to vitiligo, a skin disorder. The disease got worse and there were even more white patches on his face and he had the choice of “depigmenting his skin so that the color would even out” (Babu).
In 1994, he announced his marriage with Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. The marriage did not last long; they divorced later on in the year 1996. That same year, he married nurse Debbie Rowe and had three kids, Prince Michael Jackson, Paris Michael Jackson, and Prince Michael Jackson II. The two soon divorced in 1999 (“Michael Jackson”).
