Sandel worries that the urge to improve and mold our genetics poses a threat to humanity. Genetic engineering changes the whole idea of human nature and perfection. Sandel’s critique on their idea of eugenic reveals his deeper worries relating to human practices.
According to Sandel the breakthrough in genetics can present us with a promise filled with
a bright future and at the same time a predicament.
What is wrong with re-engineering our nature? This question has posed a lot of argument and produced different answer. For example, designing a child deaf. This design has shifted from a natural attribute to a molded identity. There is something wrong in parents ordering a certain type of genetic traits for their child. They have denied the child the natural attribute created by God.
Controversy over recreating a child into what the parents want the child to be such as the intelligence level, height etc. are disabilities children should be spared. I agree to this because it is very unfair to the unfortunate ones who are incapable to afford the money in order to build their children into what they desire or envision their child to be. Besides the financial aspect I also believe that anything that doesn’t come natural has a consequence and it’s only a temporary solution which last for a certain amount of time.
