Characterisation:
One of the biggest things I needed to change about myself in order to portray my character as Helena I needed to change the way in which I spoke, due to her being a naturally whiney person I needed to over exaggerate everything I said. This involved making my body language over dramatic. These elements alone create an effect in which makes the character cringy. Due to the synopsis of the play and the situations within it my character stands out a lot, which means because of her personality I need to over exaggerate her emotions, which included facial expression as well.
I would say my character is a very desperate person and it comes across as very noticeable and petty for example ‘To die upon the hands I love so well’ ‘I am sick when I look not on thee’ The audience get this perspective of her through the smallest little things she does, for example even the way in which she walks – sluggish, as if she can’t be bothered anymore – or, desperate to follow/find Demetrious so she sometimes she’s rushing around.
Considering from all the hurt she’s been through and all the harshness from everyone including the person she loves the most, she doesn’t give up on him. This shows the audience that she’s very determined and wants to prove people wrong in some aspects. I show this when Lysander (Will) says ‘Demetrious loves Hermia and loves you not’ this is when Demetrious wakes and realises that he in love with Helena after all. This is when Helena looks at Lysander smug as if she’s proving him wrong. However then comes to think that it’s all too good to be true and that it’s a joke between Hermia, Demetrious and Lysander and gets angry with them both and pushes Demetrious away from her. In order to get my characters emotions across I needed to over exaggerate to make it look how she would react. By over exaggerating it gets the character across more to the audience which makes it more interesting to watch.
In some ways
