Migrating population and health research project.
INTRODUCTION: This humble study about migrating population health project is to determine the diabetes-related health needs of West African immigrants living in and around Central Harlem. I will inquire about the economic, social, environmental, cultural, and political contexts in which this population lives in. To enhance my understanding of diabetes in this group, I will analyze the mechanisms through which each of these factors affects diabetes-related health in the community. I ultimately seek to identify key assets needed to reduce the burden of diabetes within Harlem’s West African population. We will talk about population health and inequalities. Frankish, CJ et al define population health as: “the capacity of people to adopt to, respond to, or control life 's challenges and changes.” Socioeconomic and health are connected. One can 't exist without another. When someone has a good economic status they also tend to have a best health outcomes. People need to know the importance of being fit, having a healthy diet. This is positive since it will help people to be aware of the issue. From our readings we found that people with diabetes history in family are more aware about the issue. Baptiste-Roberts et al. say that people “with a family history of diabetes have a higher probability of consuming a healthier diet to include abundance of fruits and vegetables in addition to getting screened for diabetes” (Baptiste-Roberts et al., 2007). So, knowing the importance of healthy diet and physical exercise may be a big help. People need to be pushed to eat vegetable and all kind of food that helps them control their blood pressure.
