Mildred And Clarisse In Fahrenheit 451
In the book Fahrenheit 451, the characters Mildred and Clarisse have some similarities and differences. Mildred is the ideal example of a Fahrenheit 451 character. Clarisse on the other hand is a threat to the stability of ideas presented in the book. Although Mildred and Clarisse share some similarities, they also have many differences. Clarisse thinks more deeply than Mildred. Clarisse is characterized as odd, crazy, curious, and intelligent. She walks a lot which is peculiar because no one in the society does that. Also, she notices detail and thinks about the deeper meaning which no one else does either. Mildred oppositely is shown as selfish, isolated, cold, and simple minded. She spends most of her time in the parlor watching the television. Mildred does not value her life because …show more content…
Clarisse represents the stability of ideas. In the government, the main focus is that no one should think. Clarisse shows the low stability of that idea because she and her family think and notice details. They are also passing that idea to other people. Clarisse’s family influences her way of thinking. “’Oh just my mother and father and uncle sitting around talking. It’s like being a pedestrian, only rarer. My uncle was arrested another time -did I tell you?- for being a pedestrian. Oh, we’re most peculiar’” (Bradbury 7). Clarisse’s family displays thinking and noticing to her and then she spreads it to Guy. Guy cannot keep that idea to himself and spreads it to Mildred which she doesn’t care for the idea. Mildred, however, is a perfect example of the Fahrenheit 451 character. She is simple minded and doesn’t think which is exactly what the government wants society to be like. The government doesn’t want people to think because their ideas could go against them and the government would lose their power over everyone. Her friends influence her way of thinking because they are also simple

First off, I really like this book in general because it has a lot of descriptive language and over all makes the book really interesting and makes it easy for following along because of all the imagery that is given. I honestly feel like Montag and Clarisse's relationship is much more than a “father and daughter” relationship. Clarisse is also so much different from everyone around her, in all honesty if I were to ever meet Clarisse in person id feel like she'd be such a unique individual, She would not care about what anybody said because she knows exactly who she is. In my opinion her uniqueness is probably why Montag is so intrigued by her. Her knowledge is very advanced, in the first few pages Clarisse points out that many people do…

Clarisse is very courageous. She questions society and doesn’t follow the unspoken rules and regulations. It takes a lot of courage to stand against an enemy that everyone else follows blindly. Because of this trait, Montag is able to see all the wrongs of society. He begins to see life as it actually is. When she asks Montag if firemen once used to help stop accidental fires, he laughs in reply. “You laugh when I haven't been funny and you answer right off. You never stop to think what I've asked you.” (Bradbury 2) This is the first time Clarisse challenges the way Montag is brought up to think; however, only until later in their meetings does Guy truly understand how incorrect society’s views…

The Fahrenheit 451 symbol I created is an atomic bomb with the tail of a book. This represents Montag because he spread knowledge and the importance of books to the society and it ended with the fall of the city. He knew the power of books and people hated him for it. The background is perfect blue skies with clouds because it shows how shielded from the truth people were in the society by the government. they don't even know anything about neighboring cities. “And across the world, thought Montag, how many other cities dead? And here in our country, how many? A hundred, a thousand?” (155) Everyone thought everything was okay and just another war until suddenly the bomb came and decimated everything around them and the intellectuals and montage…

Throughout Ray Bradbury’s bestselling novel Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag’s wife Mildred is introduced, described, and explored. From start to finish the novel tells us of Mildred’s fears, changes our perception of her, and most importantly, describes who and what she represents. But the question is, who is this apparently cowardly, inconsistent zombie of a character.…

In examining the film and novel, one important item to note is that the same actress, Julie Christie, plays both Linda (Mildred's name in the film) and Clarisse. When looking at this casting decision, one can deduce that the film director, Frances Truffault, purposefully made this decision to show the audience that the women are similar in the way that they cannot continue as they are in the present society. Although the two women are dramatically different in their beliefs, Montag continually searches for signs of Clarisse's energy and enthusiasm in his wife. Montag, is not focusing upon their physical appearance; he's instead trying to find the internal wisdom and soul of the two women that he sees.…

“Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings” is an empowering quote by the poet Heinrich Heine that directly relates to Fahrenheit 451. When books are burned or prohibited, knowledge and the freedom of thought are destroyed, which shatters the human spirit. In the dystopian world of Fahrenheit 451 the government burns books and all literary material to please and control the public.…

Clarisse McClellan and Aibileen Clark correspond with each other due to the views they change on the other characters. First of all, throughout “Fahrenheit 451” we encounter Montag widening his narrow mind and expanding the way he looks at everything. Guy Montags’ behavior is due to Clarisse opening his eyes to a completely different world and level of comprehension. She manages to get him to look at everything in a different light. Clarisse put odd thoughts into his head such as, "Bet I know something else you don't. There's dew on the grass in the morning"(Bradbury ??). In like manner, Aibileen Clark makes her readers re-think the way they had treated other races and gave the maids a power that was untouchable. She showed the world what her neighbors and herself had gone through throughout the years. Which in return changed the way the “whites” viewed their behavior towards dark skins. Being that in both books, there was some serious interference with society control, it was brought to attention it was time to advance…
