Takumi is in the same friend group as Miles. He is very good friends with Chip and Alaska. He is the person in the book who understands Alaska the most. This is because he is similar to Alaska in the way that he too is very mysterious. He is the one who explains to Miles how Alaska’s mood swings work. He tells him to not take it personally because she will get better. He is also important to the book because he is the trickster. He helps Alaska and Chip with their pranks; he is very good at them.

Ronald Takaki uses the narrative of the “Giddy Multitude” to demonstrate how the colonial elite used race and the idea of blackness to develop a social system of classification. White identity formation was made possible for white elite through certain types of work and the ability to accumulate assets. Social status also contributed to the economic context of competition over land. The law in Virginia was a legal factor that also contributed to the making of whiteness because it allowed poor whites to have privileges. Along with those privileges the idea of citizenship was created and defined in terms of who would benefit from this nation. In order for someone to be a citizen that person had to be a wealthy white male. Power and white identity was a way in which citizenship was linked to notions of whiteness, class, and gender.…

The use of the institution of slavery was the source of great conflict and division in the United States, and ultimately caused the seceding of the Confederate States from the Union. This controversial practice had not only torn a once unified nation in two, but also turned families, friends, and neighbors against one another. Some viewed slavery as a valuable necessity for plantations in the southern states. On the other hand, others regarded it as immoral primarily because of the objectification of human beings and the cruel treatment many slaves received at the hands of their masters. After the ratification of the Fugitive Slave Act in 1850, many courageous Americans felt compelled to publicly proclaim their opinions of slavery. This…

The moment he felt the ring of the thick rough rope slip through his head, he knew the time was here. The awful stench he could smell from the brown sack, which covers his face from the world. His senses heightened, he could hear movement around him, feet shuffling, deep breathing, and most of all, the sound of the man standing behind him, breathing on his neck like the predator that he is, the man who would kick the stool he stands on. The stool that’s so wobbly he could feel it shaking beneath his feet. He could hear the ticking off the clock in the room, going “tick tock tick tock”. Then as he felt the man behind him tighten the rope on his neck he saw his life flash before his eyes. Hideki Tojo was his name; he grew up following the footstep of the man he idolized the most his father. Thus a War Lord is born.…

As companies transfer their R&D activities abroad, they will have to confront a challenging management issue: how to successfully operate R&D laboratories dispersed around the world. Both Matsushita Electric and Sony seem to have coped with this issue successfully by introducing new management systems and practices - redefining the mission and goals of their global R&D, assigning two types of projects at the same time, rather than specializing projects among different labs, coordinating not by large-scale committees or meeting but through human relationships among a small number of top R&D mangers, drastically changing their organizational structures. It appears that both companies have already realized some of the anticipated benefits.…

He also received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976. His field of study is physics. Steven Chu’s early research was on atomic physics and developing laser cooling techniques and the trapping of atoms using lasers. Chu developed a technique called trapping atoms which allows scientists to study atoms very accurately. Chu’s method can be used to construct and atomic clock which is used in highly radioactive areas. Chu also did research in the field of biological physics. He studied enzyme activity and protein and RNA and formed techniques such as fluorescence resonance energy transfer, atomic force microscopy and optical tweezers, which a lot of scientists use today in their research. Chu has also been an advocate to prevent global warning and has come up with many theories to stop global warming such as having white or bright colored roof-tops. In 1997, Steven Chu, along with his partners: Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and William Daniel Phillips, won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the “development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light. In 1995, he was also rewarded the Humboldt Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In August 2004, Chu was appointed as the director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
