Miley Cyrus paper
In my essay I am addressing the administration of Jonesboro High School in Arkansas. The aim of the paper is to inform the administration of the conciuines of high school students having jobs that are demanding physically and that require much time. Currently at Jonesboro High School there is a program that allows seniors to have “work study”. Work study was created to allow students who work over fifteen hours per week the opportunity to leave school after only three class periods to go to work. The problem with this program is that many students do not actually go to work during the day they go after school would be over so the time they get out early is wasted.
The program should be eliminated to not encourage students to work more than fifteen hours a week. I myself was in the program because I worked as a hostess at a restaurant that had a very demanding schedule. My grades did not suffer because of the long hours I worked, however, many other students in my program did. By explaining my own experience of going through the program I will create pathos for the administration and will be able to give a more personal image to the story.
Throughout my years at Jonesboro High School I have had a pretty close relationship with the administration and have spent time with the Superintendent, Kim Wilbanks, on various occasions. I understand that she wants what is best for the students and would be willing to look into the program. I know that Kim Wilbanks did not work during high school so a challenge could be convincing her that the students are not benefiting from the program. However, each year the program grows larger and larger and each year the students in the program’s grades drop drastically. Instead of putting focus on work the school should be promoting staying in school and getting good grades.

Average teacher salary is $54,459. 39.9 have master’s degrees or above. In spite of these numbers, Crete-Monee high School is known throughout the south suburban Chicago land area as a “get in and get out’ school district. Every year the high school suffers from a rather large teacher turnover. This school year 34 new teachers were hired to replace teachers who retired or simply “moved on’ to other districts. According to statistics this has been a trend in the district for nearly 10 years, owing to the pay scale, and weak teachers’ union. As a result of this, there has been a disjointed, ever changing method of doing things on a day to day basis. Because of the rotating staff and administration, many policies, up till this year, were either not in place or not enforced. Parents were not very involved, and students were not held consistently accountable for infractions that stopped short of dangerous behavior or violent activity. Currently, the new administrative team is attempting to rectify this. They have made parent meetings mandatory, and did not register students whose parents did not attend the initial summertime meetings. There is an entirely new discipline code in place and strictly enforced. A new Dean of Students has been added strictly to handle freshmen…

Not all classes are the same length in time, and because of that not all students have enough time to complete their academic work and job. According to Eggers he states that, “Unlike high school students, they’re less programmed, less boxed-in by family and after-school obligations.” (181). Based on the evidence, one would assume that all college students do not spend time with their family or stay after school for extracurricular courses. Certain students tend to stay after school for tutoring or to receive feedback on essays, or projects also some stay with peers to study for a test. Furthermore some people can do a couple of hours everyday or even a few, but some students, such as myself, need to rest or take breaks, for all the work does become very stressful and tiring. Having mandatory public service can hurt certain people, yet it can also help others achieve experience how certain jobs…

“Working at McDonald’s” presented a vary interesting argument. In this writing, working a part-time job while in high school was highly criticized. It talked about how the skills needed in part-time jobs have changed drastically over the years as well as the jobs themselves. Etzioni even goes as far to say “These are breeding grounds for robots working for yesterday’s assembly lines, not tomorrow’s high-tech posts.” He even includes a rather intriguing study that found that “students who worked at least 25 hours per week while in school, their unemployment rate four years later was half of the seniors who did work.” It was stated that those who start off in these chain jobs, such as fast food restaurants, often get “gobbled up” in the world of low-class jobs. A final point made in the essay was that students often use their money in frivolous ways to gain a high status. In order to maintain this ranking, they chose work over school so they can afford their life style; eventually the student drops out completely. With out having an education, the student will never be able to gain a full-time, well paying job. This all because they held a part-time job in high school.…

Most of us have, but unfortunately many teens can not solely rest when they get home from school. An improvement to the education system will happen through freedom of choice for students in the tenth grade of high school. Students will be able to choose to continue schooling or directly enter the workforce/technical school. This reduces strain on the education system by not having to educate a large portion of children for the extra two years that is commonplace in our current system. A similar education system has been implemented in some European countries to great success (5). To prevent abuse of the system, in order to avoid working for the betterment of society, there will be a four year time period in order to obtain the necessary schooling to succeed. However, people can still attempt to continue their education after the four year time limit, but these people must work a full time job along with schoolwork to continue claiming societal benefits. These measures ensure people can have the career they want to have, and this is one of the primary aspects that keeps the system running and…

This research investigated the affects of working extra hours in a labor position on students’ GPAs each semester at Berea College. It was my belief that students who worked more hours were more likely to have lower GPAs due to their studying abilities and opportunities being compromised as a result of working too long (a negative correlation or trend between GPAs and hours worked each week). For each hour a student worked it was my belief that he or she became more fatigued, more stressed, and lost an hour in which to study. Each student must work at least ten hours here on campus as required by the Berea College Labor Program. Students may select to work more to make more money or to gain experience in a chosen field, or they may have to work more to meet work requirements for state assistance programs which help them financially but require that certain number of hours (usually 20) be worked by the student each week.…

About two years ago I went on a camping trip to Colorado with youth for Christ. It’s an organization ran through my high school. We all met up at a church and got on a charter bus, that was the longest ride of my life. It was eight-teen hours. It would have been fifteen but our tire popped on the way there. We got it fixed, and kept on moving. The closer we got to the mountains weird things started to happen. Our soda cans and potato chip bags began to pop. We were so high up that the air pressure made everything explode. And the closer we got the better we could see the mountains, because from far away all the mountains looked like hills. But as we got closer you could start to see the snow at the top of them.…

Miley Cyrus’s performance at the MTV Video Music Award’s has been debated, criticized, and dissected to the point of absurdity. Among the responses of many people on the web about her crass declaration of sexuality (Cyrus, who is twenty years old, danced in a pale-latex bra and panties and rubbed herself with a huge foam finger) that asked whether the performance degraded or empowered. Performing on live television is always a “go big or go home” kind of thing. But when Miley Cyrus stepped onto the stage at the VMA’s, she clearly set the scale for almost going too far. Miley shocked the world when she performed her #1 hit “We Can’t Stop”, and also sang with Robin Thicke. Throughout her performance, Miley made it clear that she is comfortable…

He mentions that “as many as two-thirds America’s high school juniors and seniors now hold down part-time paying jobs, according to studies.” He gives many reasons as to why it would effect their education. Students with part-time jobs often work long hours and Etzioni adds in that “in fact, these jobs undermine school attendance and involvement, impart few skills that will be useful later in life, and simultaneously skew the values of teen-agers-especially their ideas about the worth of a dollar.” The author continues on and says most of these fast food chains are “far from providing opportunities from entrepreneurship (the lemonade stand) or self-discipline, self-supervision, and self-scheduling (the paper route), most teen jobs these days are highly structured-what social scientists call “highly routinized.” Learning how to operate a cash register or food preparation machine won’t be a skill that can furthermore with you in life. Students quite often choose work over school because of the reward of getting money than staying in school and receiving nothing. He also points out that students who have part-time job do not get high quality jobs after they graduate compared to the students who did not work. In conclusion, Etzioni suggests that parents should take another look at teen employment and encourages teens to go…

Student Life Redefined Indisputable in today’s civilization, it has become unmistakable that the equilibrium of time spent on students’ social, emotional, physical, and academic life is categorically corrupted—an overload of assignments and activities for students often causes a lack of energy and inadequate spare time, many times leading to superabundant stress. Steven Guzman, a twelve year old, runs the same routine every day: He wakes up, goes to school, does homework, and sleeps, with no time for anything else but to eat. The author goes on giving solid information from examinations about extended school hours and time tired out from sports. Students pretty much experience the same time crunch as their parents. Additionally, nearly all children are now also losing free or play time, which could cause harmful effects in the future.…

College students who try to juggle job and school together find trouble at school. Early morning classes, for example, are particularly very difficult. Because they work every week night from noon to midnight, and reach home late in the night fully tired and exhausted, due to working late till midnight and have little time to do all the assigned reading and homework due to this they get behind in the assignments, and never seem to have enough time to catch up which leads to poor grades and affects the GPA. Sometimes student’s work hours create other conflicts like due to extra workload from the employer they have to skip the classes. Working part time and study gives too little time to spend with family and to socialize. By the time I reach home in midnight everybody in the family is sleeping and after the tiring day at work and school I do not even get few minutes to spend with family and kids. By the time they wake up I have to leave for my school to attend the morning classes. I am not able to attend family functions such as birthdays, marriages etc due to my work. On the other hand when it comes to socializing with friends like going together on trips and having fun I cannot go with them because of my work…
