A probe into the military's nude photos scandal channels the popular 'NCIS' television drama. However, the investigation into tens of thousands of leaked naked images of soldiers is real and nearing a boiling point.

According to an MSN investigative report on the nude photo-sharing scandal, nearly two-dozen investigators are charged with determining what crimes -- if any -- were committed and those involved. Insiders say the task is daunting, even for seasoned law enforcement staff members.

Reportedly, this is not of itself a violation of military code. The remaining minority of images is being eyed for theft and extortion connections. Here, investigators are searching for evidence of illegal computer hard drive hacking.

More than a dozen men and women -- mostly of the latter -- who expressed concerns that their private pictures may have been stolen and posted online, are aiding detectives. Using sophisticated technology, agents identified four alleged victims. Another woman verified that a nude image was her while at least three other cases are pending at this time.

Traver said the collaborative effort to get down to the bottom of the nude photos scandal has no definite deadline due to the magnitude of potential criminal violations. Using common search engines like Google and Bing uncovers a myriad of results. Further, the inherent anonymity of the internet limits the real numbers of victims and culprits.

"People that are posting and reposting, generally are not posting under their real name and some people are posting under multiple identities," said added. "It's very difficult for us to find the origin, to find the person that started the whole

    Pam Fodrill Case Study

The popular television show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigations has been on the air for 12 years, and it has brought forth the behind-the-scenes actions of criminal investigations, even if its portrayals are not always scientifically accurate. This has caused an interest in the forensic sciences that has led most people to a skewed view of how a criminal investigation actually works. The reality of a criminal investigation is that it is generally more tedious and difficult than the theory of criminal investigation would have you believe. By examining the forensic and investigative procedures of the case of Pamela Foddrill, it is apparent that the theory of criminal investigation was not representative of the procedures concerning examination of the body, but that it was demonstrative of much of the investigatory steps taken by police, like search warrants. On August 18th, 1995, 44-year-old Pamela Foddrill disappeared from the town of Linton, Indiana. Pamela went to buy some groceries at the local IGA and was abducted: her body was found wrapped in a sleeping bag near Russellville, Illinois four months later. Roughly four years later, five individuals were held responsible for their part in the abduction, rape, and murder of Pamela Foddrill: Roger Long, John Redman, Jerry Russell Sr., Wanda Hubbell, and Plynia Fowler. Long, Redman, and Russell are serving life sentences, while Fowler pled out to 14 years and Hubbell pled out to 20 years of incarceration.…

A man by the name of Brian K. Hendrix was just sentenced to twenty one years in prison for his role in an international child exploitation ring, revolving around getting underage girls to perform sexual acts on a webcam. He would use fake profiles on different social media websites to convince underage girls, some as young as eight, that he was also a young girl. He would then play a video of another victim of his performing sexual acts in front of the camera, convincing the new victim to do the same and record it for his child pornography website. The department that built the case is known as the FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children Section (VCACS). A total of eight other co-conspirators where arrested and sentenced as a part of the operation, from New York to South Africa. This particular case is a fantastic example of the FBI working with other federal agencies and even other nation’s police forces. I counted over a dozen agencies that assisted in making these arrests, involving the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and South African…

There are many problems that can result from postings on the Internet. These range from humiliation to unfounded accusations and more. In her essay “The Flip Side of Internet Fame,” Jessica Bennett details problems that some people have experienced as a result of postings that others have made. She describes problems that happen because some websites permit anonymous posts. She also gives examples from the past that show some of the histories of public shaming. Bennett wants people to be aware of these problems, to understand why they are difficult to prosecute, and that they can remain online for a long time.…

Some may argue that the societal built environment of abuse of power may be one of the main causes of most disputes within the military. Stark et. al, mentions how within armed groups, sexual violence and rape have been affiliated into norms of machismo and expressed though means of sexual domination of females. Men have been reported to engage in sexual activities such as gang rape to fully display their authority in the branch. This research shows how sexual violence in the armed forces shows an issue of power asymmetry, patriarchy, masculinity, and devaluation of women soldiers (2012). Lamentably, power struggle is mostly noticed between male and female in a military branch. Psychologically, rape is stated to occur as means of a dominant-submissive…

It can be argued at times that from an economic standpoint that digital forensic analysis can be valued when it saves the companies millions of dollars by ensuring their network is not intruded, however it certainly is not valued oftentimes on the individual level. The criminal side of digital forensics can be quite disturbing, especially when dealing with sensitive topics such as, child pornography. Although it can be quite gratifying for individuals to know they took part in capturing a sexual predator, oftentimes, as observed by Irvine (n.d.), a burnout issue among digital forensic practitioners is more present (As cited in, Losavio, Seigfried-Spellar, and Sloan, 2016). The value in which individuals derive rom the practice of digital forensics if most definitely lower as it can often be viewed as less gratifying as individuals become more sensitive to digital content over long periods of…

Officials are investigating the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs over allegations that sexual assault is rampant at the military institution. According to several former female cadets, many of whom have filed lawsuits against the school, sexual misconduct is a serious problem at the academy and has been for a number of years, possibly since women were first admitted in 1976. About 660 women are enrolled at the academy and 398 of those told the Pentagon inspector general's office this summer that they had been subjected to sexual harassment of one form or another.…
