April 2, 2014 Harvey “Harvey” is a movie about illusion and reality, it shows how people can believe in things that they cannot see or touch. Mr. Elwood the main character of the film has an invisible friend called Harvey. Mr. Elwood described Harvey as a Pooka, a being from Celtic mythology, who is specially found of social outcast. Harvey was a 6’3.5 tall rabbit. His sister vita and niece myrtle believed that Elwood was crazy because the way that he introduced Harvey to people; it wasn’t normal; for that reason they decided to take him to a mental institution. For Elwood, Harvey was real; he was his best friend with whom he could talk for hours sitting in a bar. He influenced his sister and niece to the point that some of the character in the film could see Harvey. Mr. Elwood introduced Harvey to people but they ran away because they thought that he was crazy, but for him that was envy because he believes that they wanted to be a best friend like Harvey. Harvey his invisible friend became real not only for overcoming time and space also any objection.
In addition, Elwood’s sister Veta thought that Elwood’s obsession with Harvey was a product of his imagination. After some years Veta started to see Harvey to the point that she cared for him. For instance when Elwood came into the room with Vita she closed the door carefully. For Veta Harvey became real because of the influence that her brothers provoke on her then she started to believe in Harvey. Another example is when she went to admitted Elwood into the mental hospital, she told Dr. Sunderson that with years she saw Harvey too, and this caused that Dr. Sunderson let Elwood out and admitted Veta in the hospital. On the other hand, Dr. Chumley, who was Director of mental hospital, did not believe at the beginning in Harvey he thought that Harvey was a product of Elwood’s fantasy. But his mind changed after Mr. Elwood told to Dr. Chumley what Harvey was
