The term "insanity" in the medical field according to the Taber 's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary means "the inability to manage one 's own affairs or take responsibility for one 's actions as a result of cognitive deficits, absence of self-control, or psychosis"; while in the legal system insanity means "the premise that an insane individual who commits a crime is not legally responsible for that act" or "a criminal defense asserting that at the time of the commission of the acts constituting the offense, the defendant, as a result of severe mental disease or defect, was unable to appreciate the nature and quality of the wrongfulness of his/her acts. Mental disease or defect does not otherwise constitute a defense (U. S. C 18 of the Federal Insanity Defense Reform Act)". Taking in consideration the severity of the case of Clark vs. Arizona where the insanity defense was not considered by the judge and who rejected the insanity defense proposed by his legal team and convict him of first degree murder and sent him to life in prison, we should find why.
