Ecology is the scientific study of all the interrelationships between organisms and their environment. An ecosystem is a biological community and all the non-living factors that affect it. Previously, in ---- biology class we created our own mini ecosystem terrariums. Lots of changes go on in ecosystems, and we got to record them. A terrarium is a self- contained terrestrial ecosystem that includes several species of plant, and sometimes animals too. What we had planned to do with our mini ecosystems is ------ (my partner) and I were going to place biotic and a-biotic (living and non- living) factors into a 2-liter bottle. Our 2-liter bottle would then also be placed by a window in the science lab, so the sun’s rays would shine on it. And we would also have some soil placed in our bottle, which would also be watered so the living conditions were suitable to maintain life. Then we collected heterotrophy and autotrophy, to place them in our mini ecosystems. Heterotrophs are organisms that cannot make their own food, and gets its nutrients and energy requirements by feeding on other organisms; it’s also known as a consumer. Also an autotroph is an organism that captures energy from sunlight or inorganic substances to produce its own food; it’s also known as a producer. And every few days we checked them for changes, then recorded it in our eco-logs for a little over 3 weeks. When we collected our autotrophs and heterotrophs, we gained one cricket (Billy); we also put in 2 little plants and a milkweed plant. (Very first things we put in.)
So what I have observed from this experiment or observation is that for one thing, our temperature stayed almost the same throughout the whole thing. Then the number of our autotrophs definitely went up fast, then towards the end started to come down, because the plants started dying. We only had one heterotroph; a cricket named Billy, throughout the duration of the experiment. And I believe he
