Unfortunately, companies don’t chose to make this leap saying, paying their workers more is a pain. And the smaller businesses in Portland, can’t always afford to make this leap, whether they want to or not. One night a count was taken of homeless people sleeping in shelters, temporary housing and even on the street, and we came up with 3,800 men, women and children. Another 12,000 were doubled up, in unsafe and way overcrowded conditions most of them being domestic violence victims, fleeing their homes, in hopes of finding better situations. But in todays world, better situations are rare, so that why we need your help to raise the minimum wage.
Keith Fons, supports his 5-member family by working 60 to 80 hours per week, at $11.50 per hour. He will usually get 8 hours of sleep after working a 21-hour shift. Keith takes shifts at any time open so that he can make the money to pay for the rent, putting food on the table, and paying for his 6 year old to go to school with the needed supplies. Keith is on in hundreds of thousands of people working at less than 15 dollars an
