The novel Miracle In The Andes is a true story that took place in 1972. A uruguayan flight with 45 passengers had crashed in the Andes leaving only 33 alive after the impact. Survivors continued to die from injury, starvation and a surprise avalanche. After a total of 72 days in the Andes the survivors were rescued, Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa climbed through the Andes in search for help for themselves and the rest of the survivors back at the fuselage. A total of 16 out of the 46 people survived and are still alive today. During this 72 day time frame a lot of out of this world obstacles had to be overcome in order to survive. Food was something big considering they were in the middle of the mountains there was no wildlife for the survivors to even attempt to hunt for food. They managed to find some food in little quantities in luggages but once that ran out they had no choice but to turn to cannibalism of the dead. That was the only way they could overcome starvation and to those who couldn’t stand the taste or even bare to think about eating the flesh of their once living relatives or friends they starved to death. Nando and Roberto made the life threatening decision to attempt to climb the Andes in search for rescue with no mountaineering experience or gear. This obstacle is huge and it was pure luck that they overcame this considering there was no way in knowing that they were even going in the right direction. They could have fell through a crevasse, froze to death without the shelter of the fuselage or came to a fast flowing river with no way around it. All of these obstacles were overcome as a team and wouldn't have been possible
