The first problem occurred after they stirred up the oxygen tanks, which made the tanks explode due to fault wiring. They were running out of oxygen in a matter of minutes. Mission control kept contact with the crew in space and they helped to define the problem. The team figured out that they needed oxygen and that they could not survive in the command module. Then, they worked with Mission

The main focus was to conserve power so they worked out ways to do this. It was necessary to power down all electrical systems, therefore the heat was gone, so they were freezing. The water and food was also starting to freeze so they became dehydrated and one astronaut actually got an infection. However, they were able to continue surviving like this.
The last and most detrimental issue was that of how to get back home. The solution was to go past and then around the moon to get back on track to Earth. This was a risky solution because it lengthened the journey even more, but the flight commander had to make a choice. The solutions were somewhat irrational because everyone was feeling the pressure and just wanted to get them home anyway possible. The Module made it around the moon, but later it got off track and would bounce off the Earths atmosphere's into space forever. The team had to work with Mission Control to steer the Module to Earth by
