The mission statement for The Phoenix Center Project is to develop a flagship campus that can provide mental health care services to children who have experienced a life trauma.
The campus will be composed of a clinic, an equine therapy center and an activity camp that are all used towards different forms of therapies. The overall goal of the project is to create a safe, imaginative and attractive environment that supports the Center’s innovative, trauma- informed care approaches. For the extent in which the Phoenix Center has been operational, their main focus is to help children overcome their traumas though different therapeutic
ways. The Phoenix Center helps those who are in a vulnerable stage in their lives. The clients’ minds haven’t developed to their fullest potential yet. Those individuals are at a curtail stage that can affect their growth, development, and future well-being. Having a traumatic event take place during their adolescent state and not getting the adequate treatment could later on have an everlasting effect in their communication skills, health, and general well-being. Studio 6 plans to improve the mental state of the clients by designing structures that are based on emphasizing the treatments the Phoenix Center has to offer.
Dealing with a wide range of clients that have been through difficult traumatic events, those who aren’t in the proper environment could increase the risk of conflict. With our design plans we are promoting communication between both the staff members to clients, as well as client to client interaction. Being placed in an environment that is appealing, curvilinear, and colorful makes a difference compared to one that is rectilinear and monotonous. The open appeal of our structures helps the staff have a constant eye on the clients which ensures a safe environment. Having closed off corridors and other areas will be harder for the staff to keep a look out of the clients’ and their safety.
Designing structures that are focused on the health and wellbeing of children ensures a sense of safety for the individual client. Focusing specifically on the outcome of helping the clients adds another layer onto the design to ensure the proper help is being applied. Tying in biophilic design into the structures will help improve the mental and emotional comfort that the clients will be needing during their time of healing.
