In freedom song, Owen’s father, Will, tried to vote but the consequence was that his house got shot at and later on he went out business. It show that even though the law allowed African Americans to vote their would be white supremacist that prevent African American from voting. It show that white southern men have the power to keep African American in their place as second class citizen. Also In the movie there was a scene where Daniel, SNCC worker who helped African American register to vote, brought a group into the town hall to register to vote, but they were denied to vote because they couldn't answer the question “ how many bubbles are in a soap” even the instructor didn't know the answer to the question. He just wanted a reason to denied their application.It show that white supremist will try anything to keep African American as second class citizens. Lastly, in Mississippi burning three activist were arrested and set free. Once they got out of jail the police and other people were tailing their car. Once they stop the police and the group murder them and hid their bodies. The movie show the corruption of the police force because people that work for the police where also part of the kkk. In Mississippi Burning focused on the help of the FBI while in Freedom song focused on organizing. In Freedom Song, the organization SNCC was gathering young activist to help the community by making literacy classes, voting registration, sit ins and canvassing. The film tries to emphasize the ppl and organizing of the organization to show that the true success happens when the old generation and young generation combine their efforts to fight for their rights. On the other hand Mississippi Burning showed that success happened because FBI were the one that challenged the government and the kkk to bring justice to the black community when African American couldn't stand up due to the fear of getting killed. In the film we see Agent Anderson, old middle white men and second person in charge of Mississippi civil rights workers case, intimidate Mayor Tillman, insulted the kkk members in their place and harmed Mr Pell, member of the kkk, and he harm him by cutting him a little bit with the razer. In conclusion, the film Freedom Song focused on how people came together even though they had conflicted within they combine their strength to attain their right while Mississippi focused on the aid of the government that helped African American stand up for their rights by challenging
