Because of Black history month Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm x are two well-known African Americans in today’s society and historical figures. They both had a huge impact on the civil rights movement, even though they both had different ways of expressing their feelings about racism. As we all know two brilliant and brave men are never alike. Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in a family that was in the middle class and got good schooling. However, Malcolm x was brought up in a more difficult environment and did not have the privilege to go to the schooling King had. Martin Luther king’s way of living was always against the use of violence. While Malcom believed in fighting back by using physical force. They were two men who had distinctly different tactics of overcoming in the civil rights movement; Martin Luther King had the right attitude and was a more successful leader. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader who always stood his ground. He is noticed around the world today because even though he was physically beaten day in and day out, he never gave up and not once retaliated by fighting back physically. Martin studied the Christian faith, which helped him use references in the bible to form his speeches. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that violence was not the answer. Martin got approximately 250,000 people to gather in front of the Lincoln Memorial to hear his famous “I have a dream speech”. Amazing how one man could have such a tremendous impact in the United States of America. Malcolm x’s approach to the civil rights movement was a whole lot different from Martin Luther Kings. Malcolm x once said, “by any means necessary,” meaning that if it took violence to get freedom or non-violence he would do whatever it took. Malcolm studied the Muslim moralities. Although he believed in violence, later on in life he visited Jerusalem where he came across other Muslims. He then changed his beliefs and became
