The first season of “Revenge” provided viewers with a great escape every week. The show ended its freshman run Wednesday night, when it aired one of the best and most gripping season finales of the year.

“Revenge” centers on Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), a woman who sets out to take revenge on the family (called the Graysons) that destroyed her own.

The show’s whole cast works great together, but Madeleine Stowe (as ice queen Victoria Grayson) and Gabriel Mann (as lovable Nolan Ross) particularly stand out and often steal their scenes. Stowe even received a Golden Globe nomination for her work.

The soap’s writing is also very strong, as every juicy twist (of which there are many) seems organic and every character has their own motives for the actions they take. Moreover, Victoria Grayson recites some of the best lines currently on television (ex. “every time I hug you the warmth you feel is my hatred burning through”).

The love triangle, even if it isn’t quite as riveting as the actual revenge storyline, is very interesting as well and has sparked many online debates. Should Emily be with Jack, her childhood love (Nick Wechsler), or Daniel, her current beau (Joshua Bowman)?

Along with the love triangle and revenge comes some truly inspired characters. Nolan and Victoria Grayson are two of the best ones currently on TV. This, though, is probably due to a mix between the good writing and fabulous charisma and charm displayed by their portrayers. Emily (aka Amanda Clarke), too, is a fantastic character with a complicated and enthralling past.

In conclusion, “Revenge” is undoubtedly one of the most addicting (and fun) shows currently on television. Be sure to watch the first season if you haven’t already. If you have already seen it, check out the slideshow to your left, which contains 50 photos from the show’s stellar first season!

In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, there is a motif of survival and a central idea that when one is put in a desperate situation, developments that may otherwise seem either mundane or horrifying may instead be seen as remarkable or amazing. When all the guards leave their posts because of an alarm signal, two cauldrons of soup are left unattended. All of the prisoners quickly take note of the soup and are in awe, “two cauldrons of soup with no one to guard them! A royal feast” (Wolff 59). The author’s use of hyperbole in describing the deliciousness and quality of the soup makes the disparity of the prisoners clear. The reader does not consider two cauldrons of soup that has been described as nothing better than “thick” to be a “royal feast”…

As you know, there is an ancient and raging feud amongst the Capulets and the Montagues. They have been caught three times for fighting previously. After the last fight, you claimed you would relentlessly kill anyone who is involved with another fight. However, I think you should not punish Romeo at all because of the circumstances of the fight. Do not punish Romeo for killing Tybalt because Tybalt started the fight between himself and Romeo, Romeo did not originally want to fight Tybalt, and Romeo only killed Tybalt to avenge Mercutio’s death.…

I like having the new kids on the show this season. It’s so much fun. My favorite actresses are Genea Charpentier (we knew each other before and were already friends) and another actress you will meet a little later in the season. Although the script called for me to take Ava (Cooper) by the hand and watch out for her, we became really good friends and I loved spending time with her, too.…

Revenge is a selfish quality that only benefits you, and helps nobody else. The predominant emotions that occur when revenge is achieved include: hurt, anger, spite, guilt and many more to follow; the emotions that make revenge different from justice are all selfish emotions that again, only benefit (or harm) you. For example “Revenge is mostly about “acting out” (typically through violence) markedly negative emotions.” “Justice...isn’t really about “getting even” or experiencing a spiteful joy in retaliation. Instead, it’s about righting a wrong…”. Seltzer tells us in his Don’t Confuse Revenge With Justice: Five Key Differences article, that “revenge has a certain selfish quality to it, “cool” justice is selfless in that it relies on non-self-interested, established law.” This snippet is describing that revenge is selfish and only done for the good of one, whereas justice is done for the good of many. Revenge is also an act of vindictiveness that is claimed to happen in cycles. The cycles can occur between a span of 24 hours to 24 years, because it doesn't happen just once. “Those who wish to punish the current and future generations for the inequities of a generation long gone, and who equate justice with revenge, are the most dangerous people in the world.” --Dean…

I think that there should not be anytime that a person should feel the need to display vengeance and it is not ever appropriate, well I guess if the person feels that the situation was indeed serious enough for them to have to handle of their own then there may be an exception. It is hard to say that it is not right for a person to want to seek vengeance on another person for killing or harming a loved one. Who are we to say that we can in fact do this and get away with it? I think that I would have to be put in that kind of situation to actually be able to tell if I would display that kind of anger or aggression.…
