Many people find interest in musical theatre and love every aspect of it, while others can't understand the importance of them, and find musicals to be frivolous dramas that cannot relate to people today. Even though musicals appear to be solely a form of entertainment, they actually play a larger role in the world than most people realize.
The earliest forms of musicals can be traced back to the theatre of ancient Greece, these shows were far from the complexity and genius of modern day musicals, but nonetheless they were the beginning of the musicals we have today and they hold value to the culture of the world. Every year high schools throughout America put on their own musicals. Performing these musicals has become sort of a tradition that goes back many years. Granted, musicals are not for everyone, some people just don't like music, or dancing, or drama filled scripts. Even though these people don't like musical theatre, that does not mean that they can't appreciate the creativity, hardwork, and talent that goes into each and every show. While the characters from these shows are only being portrayed by actors, that doesn't mean that all of the characters are not real, or relatable. Each person has a little bit of the beloved characters, from the world’s treasured musicals, in themselves. At some point in their life everyone gets lost and confused, hoping for a little bit of magic in their lives, like Dorothy from Oz. All people were once children going through life finding joy in small activities like singing songs and flying kites, like the Banks children from Mary Poppins, and eventually all kids will grow up and have to face the realities of life and how they take care of their children like Tevye in Fiddler.
