Mono Lake: Water Rights and Responsibilities
#1 Choose one main water system in your country.
Mono Lake is in the state of California in the United States.
#2 Research the associated environmental issues. List what you consider as the two main related environmental problems. Remember to list the references.
Heretofore, through this course, we have learned the dire consequences of mankind's irrational corporate exploitation of naturally limited resources and relevant government's lackadaisical intervention. As stated by Doršner (2015), “environmental disasters” such as the Aral Sea (Central Asia), Lake Chad (North Central Africa), the Dead Sea (Middle East), and Lake Manchar (Pakistan) should imbue scientific caution regarding human activity in relation to water resources. For each of these reservoirs, water was diverted for human consumption – which oftentimes resulted in wasteful mismanagement. Such human activities became the catalyst of dust bowls where seas or lakes …show more content…
Mono Lake has been selected for this journal assignment. In short, the Mono Lake had been endangered by water diversion from the Los Angeles Aqueduct built in 1941.
From my perspective, as outlined by Louis Sahagun (2015), the two main environmental issues related to Mono Lake are:
1) air pollution – derived from “dusty lake bottom”
2) collapse ecosystem – loss of “trout” and “migrating birds”
#3 In what ways do these issues affect you and your family directly?
Amazingly, these issues will have no direct impact on us primarily because our area's water supply originates from city-owned artisan wells. Nevertheless, although we are not directly effected, the relevant environmental awareness has been awakened. I will continue to monitor these issues and share information with
