The two people who were the most confused by it all were Ross and Lennox, who were sitting on both sides of Macbeth’s chair.
I sat down next to Ross, and asked him what he thought of it all. “In all honesty, Macbeth does not deserve this role. It is very time consuming, and you also need to be stable, mentally and physically. Ever since Duncan’s mysterious murder, Macbeth has been getting worse than what he used to. Macbeth seems more ambitious than ever, and he has been acting like he was the one who murdered Duncan.” Later, news broke of Banquo’s death and how Fleance escaped from the grasps of the murderers. I was relieved that Fleance had escaped, but saddened by the news on
Banquo.
I finally understood why Macbeth had been so short-fused with me in the past, especially when Duncan and Banquo were the topics. If I am right, Macbeth sent those two notorious killers to get Banquo, and was an accomplice to Duncan’s death. Macbeth seemed really jittery and nervous when people started talking about the murder of Banquo. When I approached him, Macbeth started to back away.
“Macbeth, wait! I just have a couple questions!” “Follow me. Now.” I follow Macbeth into a quiet area inside the castle. “I had nothing to do with Banquo’s murder,” Macbeth says to try to reassure me. “If you didn’t, then why were there two murderers here? Why did you scream after they talked to you?” “Ok, ok. I’ll tell you if you promise not to tell my wife.” “Fine, now what happened to Banquo? And did the same thing happen to Duncan?” “I hired the murderers to go after Banquo, but immediately felt regret after they left. When they came and told me the news, I turned around and saw Banquo’s ghost. I would never lie about that and I did really see him. With Duncan…” Macbeth trails off and doesn’t say a word about Duncan. Lady Macbeth storms in and asks me to leave their home at once.
As I was leaving, Macbeth almost reveals what he has told me and something about Duncan to the rest of the party, and starts acting crazier than he was when he claims to have seen the ghost of Banquo. Lady Macbeth finally orders everyone to leave. From the way the Macbeths have risen to their power and have been acting lately, I believe Duncan was killed for their benefit and I hope one day that Banquo and Duncan will be able to get justice when someone besides me finds out the truth.
