what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts" (p.1,li.47-51). This shows that Montresor is sneaky because he used sneaky tactics in order to talk Fortunato into going into the vault. Being as sneaky as Montresor requires a plan, and Montresor seemed to have a trusty plan for Fortunato. It is clear from this situation that Montresor proves to be very sneaky because he planned to trick Fortunato into the vault. After observing Montresor, it is easy to see that he is a very detailed man, making Fortunato an easy kill for Montresor. Montresor was so detailed in his planning that he even knew his servant would leave soon after he left. Later, his servants did exactly what he thought they would do and they left. "I had told them that I should not return until morning, and had given them explicit orders not to stir from the house. These orders were sufficient, I well knew, to insure their immediate disappearance, one and all, as soon as my back was turned" (p.2,li.3-8). This just goes to show how detailed Montresor really is. He used his lazy servants to be apart of his plan. He specifically knew that his servants would leave once he left. It is clear from this example Montresor is a very detailed man, and he is no one to mess with. Looking closely at how Montresor acts when he murders Fortunato, we can see that Montresor shows many clever aspects.
Montresor knew what Fortunato's weakness was, and he used it to his advantage. "He had a weak point - this Fortunato - although in order regards he was a man to be respected and even feared. He prided himself on his connoisseurship in wine" (p.1,li.22-25). The fact that Montresor knew that Fortunato was an alcoholic makes Montresor a very clever man. In addition to that, Montresor also knew that Fortunato knows the difference between curtain alcoholic drinks and would most likely be competitive with him about it. It is clear from this situation that Montresor is a clever planner and not a force to be messed
