How Did Montresor Get Revenge In The Cask Of Amontillado

Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Cask of Amontillado" is about a man named Montresor, who is seeking revenge on his so called friend Fortunado. Montresor did not achieve a perfect revenge. Montresor had two rules on how to achieve a perfect revenge. The first rule was to not get caught. The second was to let Fortunado know why he was doing it. In order to find out why Montresor did not achieve a perfect revenge the reader will have to read the story.
To start with, Montresor had two rules on how to get the perfect revenge. Montresor says that, "I must not only punish, but punish with impunity," and to let Fortunado know why he was getting revenge (228). While Montresor was trying to get revenge, he could not get caugh by anyone. He did not want people to be suspicious about what he was doing. So Montresor planned it out so well that he would be able to get away with it. For Montresor's second rule he was suppose to let Fortunado know why he was getting revenge. To Understand each rule and know why Montresor did not get a perfect revenge the reader will have to keep reading.
Even though Montresor did not achieve a perfect he still succeeded in doing the first rule. In order for Montresor to get
revenge he had to not get caught. Luckily that was the part he actually accomplished. Just so he would not get caught he thought out and planned everything so well that no one would be able to suspect him or anything. Montresor told his servants that they had to stay in the house no matter what, knowing that they would leave. He also wore a mask and a cloak when he was walking up to and leading Fortunado away just so people would not recognize it was him. So since Montresor did not get caught that means he got one step closer to achieving a perfect revenge. In order to know and understand the next rule and know why he did not get a perfect the reader will have to keep reading.
The reason why Montresor did not achieve a perfect revenge is because the second simple rule of letting him know why he was getting revenge.
So Montresor was doing pretty well up until the second rule. He got Fortunado trapped, he did not get caught, but he also did not let Fortunado know why he was getting revenge. Montresor's family motto was basically saying that when they get revenge, they better get it perfect or it does not count. Since Montresor did not tell Fortunado why he was getting revenge that means that he did not achieve a perfect revenge. So since Montresor did not do one thing he did not get a perfect revenge. Even though he never got caught he still never told Fortunado know why he was getting revenge. Therefore he did not achieve a perfect
revenge.
