Mood Disorders In Chapter 7
The types of mood disorders that I read in Chapter 7 caught my eye and found interesting. There are two main disorders with sub categories associated with them. First there is what is called Depressive disorders. There is major depressive disorders, persistent depressive disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. With major depression disorder people will have episodes of severe depression which entails that people will suddenly become in a down mood. They can feel hopeless and worthless. It often affects how they are sleeping and how they are eating. They can also feel loss of motivation, and loss in pleasure in usual activities. Persistent depressive disorder is when there is a chronic pattern of depression. And last is premenstrual
dysphoric disorder, and that is when there are changes in a woman’s mood when they start to receive their period.
For bipolar disorders there is the obvious, bipolar disorder. This is when people have mood swings. They shift their moods, energy level, and level of activity between mania and depression. There is two general subtypes of the bipolar disorder. Bipolar 1 being an occurrence of one or more manic episodes and bipolar 2 being major depressive episodes and hypomanic episode, but no full manic episode. The other type of bipolar disorder is cyclothymic disorder. This is when people’s mood swings are milder in severity than those in a bipolar disorder. This usually happens in younger adolescents and tends to go on for years.
