Morrie's Touchy Class
In this excerpt Mitch is having a flashback to one of Morrie’s classes. This is one of the classes that Mitch calls the “touchy-feely” class because of all the team building ideas and peer interaction. This particular activity that is being described is usually referred to as “trust fall” because you are trusting your partner to catch you when you fall. Morrie’s class which he calls “Group Process” is rather uncomfortable with these exercises that Morrie puts together for them. But this isn’t about Morrie’s class, it’s about Morrie.
This passage exemplifies the faith that Morrie places in others and the trust he has for everyone that they will catch him when he’s falling. Morrie says, “Sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel. And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too - even when you’re in the dark. Even when you’re falling” (61) This quote shows that Morrie has faith in feeling and trust. This is what Morrie says

One of the reasons he is able to sense how people will react to things is because of some of his sociology classes that study human emotion and reaction. The other half of his ability to feel for people is a given trait of Morrie’s. When reading “Tuesdays with Morrie” you feel as though you are able to connect with Morrie even though you’ve never met Morrie and don’t know him on a personal level. He emits a feeling and sense of comfort and gives you ability to talk to him and to show him the person you are or want to be without a fear of judgement and prejudice. In this passage from the book Morrie knows exactly why the girl in the fisherman sweater was able to trust her partner all of the sudden. Almost instantaneously after she was caught Morrie says, “You see, you closed your eyes. That was the difference” (60). Morrie knew that the girl closing her eyes was the key the second it

As Mitch pulls up to Morrie’s house, he is multi-tasking: he is checking the time to plan for his return flight, he is listening to a radio talk show, and he is talking on the phone with a producer about one of his programs. When he sees Morrie sitting peacefully on his front lawn, though, Mitch feels the need to hide all of this multi-tasking from Morrie.…

Morrie’s ideas raise up a lot of questions. What makes an emotion? How are we able to feel emotion? It makes me think of The Giver by Lois Lowry. In The Giver is a society where all emotion is eliminated, meaning that humans cannot feel emotion. It’s very interesting to compare how emotion plays a huge role in both stories. Morrie is someone who has felt sadness, pain, and grief, yet people in The Giver never get to experience those emotions. I think Morrie is trying to tell Mitch to detach himself from his emotions because he wants Mitch to accept that life is short and that nothing is permanent.…

As I reminisce about the required readings of this week 's lessons, I am reminded of the phrase "Circle of Trust". The words are simple enough, but the meaning behind it is so profound. According to Palmer, the circle of trust is not just about familiar and comfortable relationships between family, friends and loved ones. The circle of trust is truly about the relationship that a person builds or creates within every space of their lives. Rather that space be your personal life, your cultural interactions or your vocational life. "A circle of trust can form wherever two or three are gathered—as long as those two or three known how to create and protect a space for the soul" (Palmer, 2004). Palmer 's analysis of how important trust is to the…

Trust- Trust is the make or break between a relationship with someone and something. If you trust someone you have confidence that the person will do anything you tell him to do or what he says he will do. Trust doesn’t just happen; you must build trust with anything or anyone you encounter. How you build trust is never fail at something someone tells you to do. You can also lose trust with something or someone. For example, if lcpl Smith’s Cpl told him he wanted Lcpl Smith to PT after work because Lcpl Smith is having a hard time while on platoon runs and after 2 weeks Lcpl Smith still hasn’t gotten any better the Cpl knows that Lcpl Smith failed him then lost trust with his Marine. Another example would be when a kid is learning to ride a bike and keeps falling off the bike the kid will lose trust in himself that he can learn to ride his bike.…

One of the biggest factors in our lives are our families, same with Morrie. While Morrie and Mitch are discussing things he says something that may or may not make you think. “Death ends a life, not a relationship”(www.goodreads.com). Even though somebody dies doesn’t mean they aren’t your husband or wife anymore. If somebody is still alive and their best friend dies that doesn’t not make them their best friend anymore. This is Morrie’s opinion on any relationship that he has and sort of relates to the topic of love.…

In the book Tuesdays With Morrie, Morrie tries to make the world more humane. He stresses the importance of relationships over the importance of material things. Material things will not matter when one’s time is up. Morrie quotes, in the book Tuesdays With Morrie, “Love each other or perish” (Albom 91). Loving someone means that you will go out of your way to do something for others. He wanted Mitch to realize that he needed to focus on…

In the novel, “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck there was a strong bond between almost every character. For example George and Lennie were best buddies even if they went too far sometimes. But they would always have each other along each side. Morrie Schwartz faced a lot of constraints throughout his life. In his childhood, the first circumstantial constraint that he had to face was his mother’s death and the acceptance of it. Morrie could not get out of his denial stage for a long time, which gradually made him a person who never shares his grief with anyone. He also faced his father’s rejection but eventually, that made him want to be a better father to his children. Another major constraint Morrie faced was him being diagnosed…

Morrie greets Mitch with unqualified joy, but Mitch reacts with feelings of guilt. Mitch is not the idealistic, sensitive young man he had been when he was in college; he has become jaded, having "traded lots of dreams for a bigger paycheck." Morrie asks Mitch if he is at peace with himself, and Mitch can only squirm uncomfortably in response. Morrie says that dying is only one thing that brings sadness; living unhappily has the same effect. His words strike a cord with the troubled young man, and, upon returning from a short business trip, Mitch arranges to visit Morrie again on Tuesday, in what essentially becomes the opening session of the…

The trust fall is a very common trust and teamwork activity. This activity can be with two people or a whole group of people. It starts with one person being the “faller” and the others being the “catchers”. The faller will go stand in front of the catchers. The faller will have their back facing the catchers and cross their arms. The faller will then proceed to fall backwards. The catchers stand behind the faller and wait for the faller to fall backwards, then they will catch the faller. This activity requires minimal space, or enough space to fit all the participants. After the faller falls and is caught, the group discusses what everyone felt and then a new faller is chosen.…

“Love is how you stay alive” (Albom 133). This was a quote in Tuesdays with Morrie. It was one of many that I made connections with people in my own life. People that I have looked up to for wisdom and relief that everything is going to be okay. Morrie was a man with good morals, and he believed that people need to devote themselves to their community and their self in order to have a meaning of life. Throughout the book, I believed the theme was about knowing what is important and learn to love one another.…
