Although both stories are about hunting, “The Most Dangerous Game” is aimed to help readers escape the real world, giving the readers a thrill.
At the beginning of this story, it is only revealed that General Zaroff is found of Mr. Rainsford’s work as a hunter because Zaroff is a hunter himself. A little later into the text we find out that General Zaroff got bored with hunting even the wildest animals and started hunting humans. Zaroff wanted to go hunting with Rainsford, and soon Rainsford is to find out Zaroff wants to hunt him. In “Hunters in the Snow,” the reader is able to empathize with the characters as the story is about real world problems. The story first reveals that this group of friends has problems amongst themselves, as most group of men do. The relationships between these men shape the story, and you later find out hidden feelings toward each other. For example, Kenny gets hurt while out hunting, Tub shot him. Frank and Tub head toward the hospital, making a few stops, to ‘warm
up’. At the very end of the story we find Frank had not taken Kenny to the hospital as he had turned in a different direction, but the whole time Frank led Kenny to believe he was going to the hospital. Another item that was hidden through the text is the real reason Kenny shot the dog. Kenny didn’t tell the group the old man had asked him to shoot the dog because the dog was sick, he just did it and that led to Tub shooting Kenny. Once one of the other boys told the old man that Kenny had shot his dog, it is then revealed that the old man asked Kenny to do it because he didn’t have the heart to do it himself.
