The Lusitania set sail for Liverpool on May 1st, under the control of Captain Turner. The sailing for the Lusitania went well until May 7th, 1915. On May 7th a U-boat named U-20 under the command of Schwieger had spotted the Lusitania. The U-20 shot a torpedo at the boat and it made a direct impact. “As the torpedo passed from the view below the edge of the deck…we all had a kind of hope that maybe it wouldn’t explode… In the next instant, 350 pounds of explosives detonated against the plates of the hull, at a point under the bridge about 10 feet below the water line.” Captain Turner told everyone not to panic because the Lusitania was to great of a ship to sink at least that’s what he thought at the time. During the sinking the things that people saw terrified them as they could do nothing to save them. Schwieger described his view of the sinking of the Lusitania, “The ship was sinking with unbelievable rapidity. There was a terrific panic on her deck. Overcrowded lifeboats…Desperate people ran helplessly up and down the decks. Men and…

Amelia Earhart had the courage and independence to do anything she set her mind to. She is well known around the world for her many aeronautical accomplishments. Her bravery and tenacity are legendary. Her attempt to fly around the world is regarded as one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history. Her flight around the world is legendary because of her unexpected and still undetermined disappearance. Amelia broke the stereo type boundaries and let the world know that she wasn’t afraid to be the best female aviator of her time. Her unexpected last flight was her attempt to fly around the world in 1937. Along the journey, Amelia and her partner Fred Noonan made sure to stop to have the Electra checked, refueled, and to tell everyone that they were safe (Candace Fleming 102). On July 2, Amelia and her partner left Lae, New Guinea, and the Electra apparently had 1,000 gallons of fuel. At 8:00 GMT, Amelia made her last radio contact with Lae (Pop Culture Universe). They had short communications with the Itasca, which received the last transmission saying that gas was low. There are many conspiracies to how she disappeared, but the most popular are that she landed on Gardner Island, crashed into the sea, or fell victim to the Japanese during the time of war.…

On May 1, 1915, the Lusitania, a luxury, British ocean liner set sail out of New York, bound for Liverpool. Captain Turner read the paper earlier that morning appending that the Germans made an admonitory stating that they had submarines in the Atlantic that haven’t given their location. Nobody was worried, as everyone presumed that the Lusitania was the safest, most sturdy ship ever built! Only two people canceled due to the warning. Captain Turner had nothing to be worried about, so he thought. Before seafaring, family and friends were allowed on the ship to say their farewells to the passengers. After beginning the voyage, everyone began to get settled in. First class passengers had tons of suitcases full of heirlooms and expensive items.…

After the submarine rested on a sandbank, about thirty fathoms down, it was time to assess the damage. The propellers were gone, the hatches were jammed, the radio was damaged, but still worked, and all but one of the crew survived. But the most serious problem was that there was only enough air to last the crew for two days. After speaking to the shore station the Lieutenant was told that rescue would not be for at least a week.…

Fredrick Fleet was the workman on guard on the Titanic on April 14. Fleet, had warned the personnel on the ship’s control deck to look out for icebergs that night, yet nobody was at the control panel that fateful night (McPherson 6). The Titanic was thought to be unsinkable when it was built in 1911. “More than 2,200 people were now aboard the Titanic including 1,300 passengers” (Senan 16). The location the Titanic deported from was Great Britain and it was headed to New York. After three long days of sailing on the North Atlantic, they stopped in Ireland. A few days later, the ship crashed into an iceberg that had made it’s way into North Atlantic from Greenland (Fahey 4). Many people went back to their rooms to get their valuables from down below (Lord 60). Most historians say that they don’t know the exact number of passengers that were on the Titanic because, there was no accurate list of them. The Titanic was a major disaster but could have been prevented if workers were at their stations.…

The ss Minnow was a little cruise ship manned by a small crew and several groups of passengers. It was caught in a tropical cyclone which blew it thousands of miles off course for several days. In the second day of the storm, the radio and all communication means were destroyed after the ship had sent out a distress call, expressing the fear that the ship would go down. Many days later, after the ship had been tossed through the South Pacific, the ship ran aground on an island which the Captain realised was a remote and uncharted and probably undiscovered new volcanic island. The implication of all this is that eventual rescue is remote but cannot be ruled out if they survive long enough: search and rescue would be based on the last plotted position thousands of miles away on the belief that the ship may have sunk at that point; the island is not near any trade route. This is before the days of GPS and satellite tracking.…
