2.1 The hospitality industry development in China
Today, travel- and tourism- related activities have become a major contributor to global economic development, providing employment and improving the quality of life for local residents. An increasing number of countries rely on tourism for rising income (Youell, 1998). Especially, some countries have seen travel and tourism as strategic industry including China, where tourism developed with the following conditions: first, China is rich in tourism resources; second, rapidly economic raised support the tourism industry; third, positive government policies bring the good benefit for tourism (Lew et al, 2003). Furthermore, the beginning of this year, China Tourism Research Institute (CTRI) forecasted that the growth revenue in tourism industry of China will rise by 14% (CHINANEW, 2010). And by 2020, China will become the world’s leading tourism destination exceed traditional destination such as France, Spain and the United States (Lew et al, 2003).
At the same time, the development of hospitality industry has been drove up accompanying with the rise of tourism industry, which provides an attractive, high- status working environment with competitive pay and conditions, while this service industry is in high demand in the labor force and benefits from low staff turnover.
