it. Behaviorist would say, Kevin’s symptoms came from learned behavior. It could have been modeled or unconsciously reinforced. When Kevin found out that his parents were adding a new addition to the family he hated it.
He was upset that he would not be the only child anymore. When his baby sister was born Eva held her in her hands to get her to stop crying. Once Kevin realized she stopped crying he threw water in her face to make her cry again. Cognitive theorist would say Kevin held an attitude that diminished the importance of other people's needs. Eva seemed to always have flash backs on the major life stressors she had in life due to the medications she was intaking. In the movie it did not show what exact type of meds she was on or what the reason it was for but it did have an impact on the child's brain functioning. Biological theorist would say that there are hormonal and brain abnormalities. In other words these abnormal brain chemistries run in the family. Kevin never talked about any friends, he never hung out with anyone or developed a relationship with anyone outside of his father. In the eyes of a sociocultural theorist they would say Kevin may have been bullied in school but never brought it up so now he does not want to be associated with anyone.
In conclusion the message this movie sent is a lesson learned. Plenty of kids act up for attention was it because Eva did not show Kevin the love and affection he needed to become a normal child
or was he bound to end up having this disorder. Another reason on why I think this movie sent a lesson learned message is because Eva tried to tell Kevin's father that he needed help. That there was something wrong with Kevin and he wasn't the sweet and innocent boy he thought he was. The result of the father not listening is now Kevin killed him, his sister and many others. You should always monitor your child and if you begin to ever feel like there is something off about your child you should seek help immediately. Do not put it off because the level of severity may worsen. I feel like this movie was well directed. It was very accurate because it didn't portray ASPD as any other disorder or create an unrealistic idea of what the disorder ASPD is. It showed all the signs, symptoms, and characteristics of an individual with this disorder. To answer the question “Does the image portrayed relate to current health policies or therapy practices?” I would say the film followed the health care policy completely because even though Kevin displayed the symptoms of ASPD they did not diagnosis him yet because of the cut off age. In my opinion what I would change is when the Mother went to see kevin and says you don’t look happy and he responds have I ever? And after she asks why he did what he did. Kevin responded “I used to think i know but now he’s not too sure” they shouldn't have ended the movie right there. I would have recommended him speaking with a therapist to seek help and show how you could go about handling a person with this mental health illness. Instead of ending it right there. I think the way this film shaped attitudes about Kevin's disorder is very violent, aggressive, scary, deceitful and impulsive. The last thing I want to cover before I let you go is reviewing everything I talked about today which I hope you now are experts on is 1) an multitude of facts about Antisocial personality disorder, 2) symptoms the main character Kevin displayed and 3) how each theorist would examine his disorder.
