The movie Shooter was released in cinemas on March 23, 2007. The movie Shooter is directed by Antoine Fuqua and based on the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. The movie Shooter takes place in North Eastern United States, with an army scout on the run. The army scout is wanted for the attempt of the assassination of the president. This movie takes place in the twenty-first century and is filled with action and suspense. In essence, the movie Shooter is great because of the amazing action scenes, the realistic feel, and believable characters. Thirty-six months after Donnie Fenn’s death Colonel Isaac Johnson, who is a tall, slender, and older man, recruits Bob Lee Swagger, a tall, dark haired, athletic trained army scout sniper, to end an assassination attempt on the president. During the time looking for the assassin the Ethiopian president is shot and killed. While in the chaos, after the assassination Bob Lee Swagger gets shot twice by a local police officer. Bob Lee Swagger manages to run away wounded, but now he is wanted for the assassination of the Ethiopian President. Furthermore, while Bob Lee Swagger is on the run he steals Nick Memphis’s car and gun. Nick Memphis’s is a rookie FBI agent with an average built and has dark hair. Bob Lee Swagger manages to escape to Sarah Fenn’s house where he recovers. Sarah Fenn, Donnie Fenn’s widow, has brown hair and is medium height. During the time Swagger spends at Sarah’s house Memphis begins to find “holes” in Swagger’s supposed assassination of the Ethiopian President. Swagger and Memphis meet when Swagger has to save Memphis’s life because he’s been kidnapped for knowing too much about Swaggers innocence. After the kidnapping Swagger and Memphis try to prove Swagger’s innocence. In the meantime, Sarah was kidnapped. In particular the movie Shooter’s actions scenes were intense. One great example, of an action scene from the movie Shooter is when Swagger and Memphis are in Virginia.

“Good Night, and Good Luck” is not your typical Hollywood film full of conventional action, cliff hangers, and romance. It is however a masterpiece of its time, about an era that many Americans try to forget. George Clooney, an esteemed American Actor and director of this film tried to capture a period of time known as the McCarthy Era where the “red scare” or fear of communism allowed the Senator from Wisconsin to try and convict suspected traitors. Its historical accuracy with real footage, quotations, and individuals, along with the distinct characteristics of Edward R. Murrow by actor David Strathairn are remarkably accurate. The film takes place virtually entirely in the CBS newsroom and is during the early days of television broadcasting in the 1950s. Edward R. Murrow was and always will be a celebrated broadcasting journalist and in this film we see he and his dedicated staff opposing Joseph McCarthy’s harsh methods. We were clearly reminded both subtly and bluntly throughout the film that doing such things during this time was very dangerous with the loss of advertisers, threats from military colonels, O’Brian newspaper attacks, and Don Hollenbeck’s possible suicide. Even the seemingly irrelevant fact that Shirley and Joe Wirshba feared having their secret marriage discovered highlighted the feelings America was having at the time. When the CBS program vocalized its view on McCarthy as shown with Murrow’s words of “but the line between investigating and persecuting is a very fine one, and the Junior Senator from Wisconsin has stepped over it repeatedly,” the fire was started. Through actual footage of McCarthy responding to Murrow’s claims, we see just the methods the Senator used with falsely accusing and labeling any criticizer as a communist or a communist sympathizer. It was a great device to begin and end the film with a speech Murrow gave in 1958 where he explains that our flaw is to…

Oliver Stone’s JFK (1991) does an excellent job depicting Jim Garrison’s breakdown of what he thought happened during the assassination of JFK. The scene itself incorporates Garrison’s narration (played by Kevin Costner), fictional reenactments of the JFK assassination and real footage to bring home the logic Garrison was arguing. Through aspects of continuity editing, audio continuity, and complexity editing, Stone makes sure that all the pieces fall in line to create a coherent 4 minute scene.…

The Matrix is the second film of the writer/director team Larry and Andy Wachowski, who have once again hit the mark with their science fiction thriller with the perfect balance of action, excitement and suspense. The Matrix didn’t follow the trend of many other sci-fi films of this era, which are becoming less and less reliant on plot and focusing their attention on special effects, which can often result in them becoming boring and predictable. Instead the Matrix achieved what a sci-fi film should achieve, in the sense that it ticked all the boxes for a good sci-fi film, while also being successful in genre crossing and character development.…
